A V A
I left both of them at the restaurant with Trevon hot on my trail.
"What?" I asks.
He put a palm up, "We need to high-five on that."
I side-eye him, "Really?" What's there to high-five? High-five to walking away from toxic relationships, I can't remember.
"Yeah! I mean, did you see how badass you were back there?" He puts his palm closer.
I give him a high-five.
"I'm glad I came and kept my mouth shut."
He came, but I'm not sure if he really kept his mouth shut, considering the number of times I had to kick him.
The next day was peaceful. And just when I thought everything was over, Luke came to my house with a gift in his hand.
I pinch the bridge of my nose, "Look," I said, "I don't know how much more forward I have to be, but I'm not interested."
"Oh-" he says slowly, "I'm actually here for Trevon."
My lips involuntarily twitch in response to his statement. How embarrassing. "Trevon?"
Luke pushes his free hand into his pants pocket. "Is he here?"
"Yeah. Give me a second." I close the door and walk to the living room. "Trev?"
Trevon turns around, and with a bagel in his mouth, he says: "Yeah?"
"Luke is here to see you."
He takes two bites and removes the bagel, then swallows the pieces in his mouth. "What? Me?"
"Yeah."
"Why?"
I shrug. How would I know why Luke is here for Trevon?
Trevon passed me and headed to the front door. Of course, I wouldn't miss the action, especially when it's not about me.
Trevon opened the door slowly, "Hi."
Luke gives off one of his charming smiles, "Hey."
He looks past Luke for potential cameras, "Can I help you?"
"Um- I actually want to say something." Luke fidgets slightly, "Is it okay if I come inside?"
Awkwardly, Trevon says, "Sure." He steps aside, and Luke goes inside the house. Trevon gives me a weird look, and I'm pretty sure my face is the same.
When Luke sits down on the couch, I said: "Well, I'll leave you two talk." About what? No idea.
I kind of want to stay, but the atmosphere is too weird for me.
"Wait-" Trevon suddenly shouts, "Can you get us some tea?"
You idiot. No. I smile, "Sure."
I made my way into the kitchen to brew some tea. While the water heats up, I keep an ear out for the conversation. I was going to eavesdrop in the other room, so I might as well do something nice.
"So-" Trevon muffles voice, drips into the silence, "What do you want to talk about?"
"I...I want to apologize."
I bet Trevon is feeling good right now. He always had an inferiority complex towards Luke, so to hear someone whom society deems better than you must feel good.
"Can I know for what?"
I wish I had an idea why Luke apologized, but I don't.
"For what happened."
