The house was no longer far, but suddenly, their car stopped.
Sneha thought about how they would reach home now.
After getting out and observing the car, Ujjwal told Sneha, "We’ll have to walk from here, the house isn’t too far anyway."
The rain was still pouring heavily. She stepped out of the car and flinched at a lightning.
Ujjwal put Ishika's raincoat on her and took his umbrella.
Then, the two began walking toward the house. Along the way, a strong gust of wind bent Ujjwal’s umbrella, so he had to walk the rest of the way, soaked.
Finally, after a while, they arrived home.
Seeing them safe and sound, Ishika was happy. She hugged her mom.
"Are you okay?" Ishika asked her mom.
"Yes, I’m fine," Sneha replied, gently patting her head.
Ishika wanted to hug Ujjwal too but held back because her mom was right there.
"You go freshen up quickly, I’ve kept hot water in the bathroom," Ishika told her mom, who then went to get freshened up.
"Kumar, you should go to the other bathroom. I kept hot water there as well; you’re soaked, you might catch a cold."
"Alright," Ujjwal said, grabbing his towel and heading to the bathroom.
Meanwhile, Ishika finished cooking, turned off the stove, and then Ujjwal returned, freshly showered, and hugged her from behind.
Ujjwal crossed his arms over her belly. Ishika leaned back against him, a smile spreading across her face. She was enjoying being in his embrace.
"Any trouble on the way back from the office?" Ujjwal asked.
"No," Ishika replied, her eyes closed as she felt his lips on her neck.
Ujjwal kissed her on the neck, leaving a love bite.
Just then, they heard the bedroom door open, and they broke the hug.
All three of them sat down to eat. While they were eating, Sneha noticed something red on Ishika’s neck.
"Ishika, what’s this red mark on your neck?" Sneha asked.
Ishika’s eyes widened. She couldn’t respond and blushed deeply.
Ujjwal chuckled and said, "I did that."
Ishika, who had been looking down, quickly raised her head and shook it, denying it, saying, "He’s joking. I had an itch there, so I scratched it, which is why it’s red."
"Why are you lying, Ishika?" Ujjwal teased her playfully.
Hearing this, Sneha looked at Ishika again, waiting for an answer.
"I’m telling the truth," Ishika said, without making eye contact.
When Sneha got distracted with her plate, Ishika gestured to Ujjwal, warning him, “I’ll deal with you later.”
"Okay," Ujjwal deliberately replied loudly.
Sneha looked at Ujjwal and asked, "Okay? What?"
Poor Ishika pleaded silently to him not to reveal anything. Ujjwal, in a playful mood, simply replied, "Nothing."
Ishika sighed in relief.
Sneha and Ishika were sitting side by side, with Ujjwal sitting right in front of Ishika.
Under the table, Ujjwal placed his foot on top of Ishika's, making her eyes go wide.
He playfully rubbed his foot against hers as they continued to eat.
Ishika gestured, warning him that her mom might notice.
While she was gesturing, Sneha caught her from the corner of her eye. "What happened, Ishika? Do you want to say something?"
"I was just wondering the same thing. Ishika seems like she wants to say something," Ujjwal added.
"Don’t be shy, Ishika. Whatever you want to say, just say it," Ujjwal said, trying to hold back his laughter.
Poor Ishika replied, "It’s mosquito bothering me."
Ujjwal chuckled again.
While they were eating, Ujjwal’s spoon fell to the floor. He bent down under the table to pick it up.
As he was about to get up, he noticed Ishika's legs and mischievously smiled.
He ran his fingers over her foot, making her pause mid-bite.
As his fingers slowly traveled up her leg, Ishika glanced nervously at her mom to make sure she hadn’t noticed.
When Ujjwal's fingers reached her thigh, Ishika let out a quiet "Ah!" Sneha looked at her and asked, "What happened?"
"Nothing," Ishika replied quickly.
Ujjwal stopped right there, not going any further, and then returned to his seat with the spoon.
Ishika lowered her gaze and focused on her food. Ujjwal noticed she was avoiding eye contact.
After they finished eating, Sneha went to wash her hands. Ujjwal took the opportunity to hug Ishika, whose head was lowered.
"Look up, Ishika," he said.
Ishika shook her head in refusal.
"Why?"
"Because I’m mad at you."
"Why?" he asked, kissing the top of her head.
"What if Mom had seen you doing that?" she said softly.
"She wouldn’t have been able to see from there," Ujjwal reassured her.
Ishika kept her head down, her cheeks turning pink despite her being mad with him, which Ujjwal found endearing.
"You both go to your bedroom and sleep, I’ll convince you tomorrow," Ujjwal said.
"Okay, so where will you sleep?" she asked.
"Why do you need to know? You’re mad at me, after all," Ujjwal replied teasingly.
"Fine, let me go now."
"Ishika, you’re the one holding onto me," Ujjwal said, unable to look away from her chubby cheeks.
When Ishika looked at her hands, she realized she was indeed holding onto him.
"One moment you’re mad, and the next you’re hugging me, hmm?" he teased.
Ishika pulled away and went to get a glass of water.
After Sneha returned from washing her hands, Ujjwal said to her, "You and Ishika can sleep comfortably in that bedroom."
"Okay. Where will you sleep?" Sneha asked.
"In the other bedroom," Ujjwal replied, glancing at Ishika, who quickly turned her head as if she hadn’t heard him.
Ishika and Sneha went to the bedroom. Ujjwal stayed in the living room for a while, lying on the sofa and gazing out at the rain, which had slowed to a gentle drizzle.
"Ishika, ever since you gained some weight, you’ve only worn knee-length kurtis. So, what’s with this night suit?" Sneha asked, noticing Ishika in her nightwear for the first time.
