I updated Chapter 40 two days ago, but it received fewer reads and votes than usual (much lower than the average), which has left me a bit disheartened. One reader kindly mentioned that he/she didn’t receive notification of the update.
If you haven’t read Chapter 40 yet, I’d really appreciate it if you could check it out first before reading this one. Thank you so much.
--------------------------------------------------------------(In the house)
The cold has started, but still, Ujjwal doesn't feel cold.
Why?
Ishika is snuggled up against his chest. She hasn't left even the tiniest gap for air to pass through. Both are sleeping under a thick blanket.
Ujjwal opens his eyes.
He sees Ishika, her hair all messy. He enjoys the warmth she's providing. He gently caresses her hair and thinks about how he ended up with such a caring, loving, and wonderful wife. He feels lucky.
He kisses her on her head.
He recalls how, despite traveling so much, she still made dinner at 2 a.m. That's why he decides to let her sleep and thinks about getting up himself since it's already 8 a.m.
"Ishika..." he whispers, still caressing her head.
He looks at how peacefully she's sleeping, her hand clutching his t-shirt.
"Ishika..."
"Hmm," she murmurs without opening her eyes.
"I need to get up."
"Why?" Ishika rubs her head against his chest seeking comfort.
"I need to shower."
"It's Sunday. Shower later, Kumar."
"I won't be able to sleep anymore; it's already 8, Ishika."
"I'm really enjoying sleeping like this, Kumar. Let me stay like this, please."
Her words melted his heart, and he smiled. But then an idea struck him- he decided to tease her a bit.
"I have some office work to do," he lied.
She looked at him with big, innocent eyes, her expression pleading.
"Can’t you just stay a little longer, Kumar?" she asked, her voice so sweet and vulnerable that Ujjwal almost gave in.
But he shook his head, though a playful grin tugged at his lips. "No," he said, pretending to be serious.
Ishika puffed her cheeks and turned away from him, burying herself into the blanket on the other side of the bed.
"Upset, hmm?" He said.
"Ishika..." he murmured. How could he bear her silence? He placed a gentle hand on her shoulder. "Ishika..."
But she shrugged off his touch, turning further away.
Determined, Ujjwal slid closer to her, pulling his blanket over both of them. Wrapping his arms around her from behind.
"Why did you come here?" she asked. "Isn’t your work more important to you?"
"Work is important, Ishika," he said, his arms tightening around her. "But so are you."
"Then why are you here with me now?" she asked, her voice softening slightly as she felt the warmth of his breath on her shoulder.
"Because my sweet wife is upset with me," he said, smiling softly. "And I can’t focus on anything else until I cheer her up."
