"Do you ever think about the future?"

"It's 2 am." Billie mumbled on to her collarbone, eyes still closed.

Sighing Billie turned over to turn on the lamp on her bedside.

Halley sat up, back against the headboard looking down at her hands, absentmindedly playing with the ring on her finger.

"Why are you so worried about it?" Her voice coated with sleep.

Halley suddenly felt bad for waking her up, but she couldn't shake the nervousness about the future she simply shrugged at her question still playing with the ring.

"Just something on my mind, I guess."

There were a lot of things going on in her mind. but her future was the main one that stood out. she was always scared of the unknown, scared of what was to come. what her fate was, how will she be able to handle it?

Would she just finally crack not being able to handle it?
Would she just say fuck it and be selfish and end it all without a second thought?

Her thoughts were broken when a warm hand laid on her trembling ones. Halley looked up meeting Billie's worried but gentle gaze.

"It's gonna be okay." she said with a warm smile.

"Whatever's going on in the pretty little head of yours it's gonna be okay." Halley nodded looking down at their entangled hands.

Billie wrapped an arm around her shoulder kissing her temple. She scooted them down so that they were both laying on their backs with her free hand Billie reached up to turn the light off getting herself comfortable.

"Hey Bil?"

"Yeah?"

Halley didn't speak for a moment; she was looking down at Billie's hands taking in detail of her fingers, how soft her hands felt. how they perfectly fitted in hers.

"Can you sing me a song?"

Billie looked down to see Halley curled up against her this time with her eyes closed. her heart tugged at the sight of this. She cleared her throat and began to sing 'Don't let me down.' by the Beatles.

And here she was a year later, softly strumming her guitar singing that very same song. her eyes never left her beloved, even as she lay bruised and cut, she still looks so damn beautiful.

Billie was released from the hospital a few days ago, she of course had to use crutches to move around but she recovered quick and fast considering everything that happened. She was lucky enough to leave the crash site with nothing but a concussion and a broken leg. the same couldn't be said for Halley, however.

She's now off the ventilator and breathing on her own, she's slowly but surely making progress, the doctors say she may be waking up soon.

Just as she promised she put her hair in Dutch braids and brought Zoe over to paint her nails.

"She always wore blood red with glitter. it was her favorite." She told Zoe when she had called Billie to ask what color she'd want to Halley to see when she woke up.

As Billie continued to strum her guitar with random tunes having finished the song a while ago, she watched as Zoe painted her nails.

She kept thinking if they hadn't left the party so soon, if they would've just pulled over or something they wouldn't be in this situation. they'd be home lying in bed together watching movies or reruns of the office.

But here they were Billie being the only one who hadn't got the worst end of it. instead, her best friend, her wife lay there unconscious.

and there wasn't a thing she could do about it.
