to be open

i want you to be open to me

like a poem is open to translation.

yes, there'll be loss

but it'll be the loss of accuracy

not of possibilities.

it'll be a loss that enlarges us.

we only have to be solid enough

to let a snake climb over us.

we only need to be solid enough

to not break under the burden

of the mirror's shadow.

when we break away there'll be

cheese strings between the mouth and its bite.

this is where language becomes

a ropewalker, a stringdancer,

exiled from one mouth and a refugee in the other.
