infinity and beneath

when the infinity sign is pulled apart

it breaks into two headless zeroes.

ever noticed it in your books?

ever seen it happen to someone you love?

ever been there when it happened to you?

there's a wall of tears just beneath my eyes

and i'm trying to scale but i fall

and when i fall i become a knot in my heart,

then a lump in my throat, and finally

a poisonpill on my tongue called speech.

my eyes are potholes now

on a dangerous knifechance road

filled with rainwater as stagnant

as a funeral of a hated man.

the only way this water can go

is down into the gutters, drowing rodent hopes,

or up into the scorching sun,

leaving behind memory strings of moisture

like abandoned orgasms, like dried up tears.
