( Don't forget to comment 😭)AUTHOR POV
The loud noise broke their tender moment like a sudden thunderclap. Akriti gasped, her heart racing as she instinctively stepped back. Aditya straightened, his usually calm demeanor momentarily replaced by alarm. Both of them looked around, their eyes darting to the source of the disturbance.
“Adi,” Akriti whispered, clutching the edges of her dupatta tightly, her voice laced with panic. “We’re gone. If Dad sees us like this—”
She couldn’t even finish her sentence, the weight of the possible consequences looming over her.Aditya, however, pulled himself together quickly, his protective instincts kicking in. “Shh,” he murmured, stepping in front of her. “Just stay behind me and don’t move.” His voice was steady, but the tension in his body betrayed his own fear.
Akriti obediently stepped behind him, peeking over his shoulder as Aditya turned to face the approaching footsteps. Her breathing quickened as she saw two familiar figures coming closer—her father, Manan, and Aditya’s father, Aadarsh.
Her heart sank, and she gripped the back of Aditya’s shirt. “Adi, they’re coming this way! What are we going to do?” she whispered urgently.
Aditya’s mind raced, searching for a solution. “Just stay calm,” he said through gritted teeth, though his heart was pounding just as fast as hers. He turned his gaze to Aadarsh, who was the first to spot them.
Aadarsh’s eyes narrowed slightly, taking in the scene with a quick, assessing glance. Aditya, desperate to avoid disaster, subtly raised his hand and made a small gesture, silently pleading for his father’s help.
Aadarsh’s expression didn’t change, but there was a flicker of understanding in his eyes. He turned to Manan and placed a hand on his shoulder, steering him toward the opposite side of the hall. “Manan, let’s check the seating arrangements on that side. I think there’s a minor issue that needs sorting,” he said smoothly.
Manan hesitated, glancing briefly in Aditya and Akriti’s direction, but Aadarsh expertly redirected his attention. “Come on, it won’t take long.”
Aditya and Akriti watched with bated breath as the two men walked away, their footsteps fading into the distance. Relief flooded over them, but the tension lingered like an unwelcome guest.
Akriti finally let out the breath she had been holding. “Adi, we almost got caught,” she said, her voice trembling with a mix of fear and exasperation. “What were you thinking?!”
Aditya turned to her, a sheepish grin spreading across his face. “Well, technically, we didn’t get caught, did we?” he said, trying to lighten the mood.
But Akriti wasn’t having it. She crossed her arms and glared at him. “This is your fault! If you hadn’t insisted on hugging me here—of all places—none of this would have happened!”
Aditya raised his hands in mock surrender, his grin widening. “Okay, okay, my fault. But you have to admit, it was worth it.”
“Worth it?!” Akriti hissed, her cheeks flushing with a mix of embarrassment and lingering fear. “We were this close to being caught! What if Dad had seen us? Or worse, your dad!”
Aditya shrugged, his confidence returning. “Dad wouldn’t have done anything. He knows how much I love you.”
Before Akriti could respond, Aditya glanced around, clearly calculating his next move. “Anyway, I think it’s time for me to make an exit,” he said, taking a cautious step back.
