The dining table was bustling with chatter and the clinking of cutlery against plates, but a palpable tension hung in the air. Aditya and Akriti, seated across from each other, were struggling to focus on their food. The news of not being allowed to see each other after the engagement ceremony had left them both in silent turmoil. They had barely reunited after a week apart, and now this? It felt cruel. The longing in their eyes was evident, even as they tried to mask it with faint smiles and diverted attention.

Akriti pushed her rice around her plate absentmindedly, sneaking a glance at Aditya. His jaw was set, but his eyes softened when they met hers. She gave him a small, reassuring smile, but it didn’t quite reach her eyes.

Aditya let out a quiet sigh, peeking at his food. The thought of not seeing her again until their wedding day was gnawing at him. After all the years of waiting and the distance they had endured, these last few days of separation felt like the universe was testing their patience again.

To break the silence, Apeksha spoke up, her voice cheerful yet curious. “By the way, Adi, I never asked you—how did you two meet? I mean, you’ve lived apart all your lives, so how?”

Akriti blinked, startled by the question, but then she smiled faintly. “Social media has its way of connecting people,” she replied, her voice tinged with nostalgia. She recalled those late-night chats and secret video calls that had sustained them for so long.

“But I want to know in detail. How did it start? When did you both realize it was love?” Abhiman chimed in, leaning forward with genuine interest. Even he, Aditya’s brother, didn’t know the full story.

Aditya leaned back in his chair, his lips curling into a small smile. “Eight years back, on 13th December—” he began, but Mona’s sudden gasp cut him off. She choked on her food.

“What? Your first chat date and wedding date are the same?” Mona exclaimed, quickly recovering as Abhiman reached over to rub her back. “What a coincidence!”

Akriti looked at Aditya, her brow furrowing. “I didn’t realise that until now either,” she admitted,  her voice soft. The realisation made her heart flutter. It felt like a sign, a perfect circle completing itself.

“Well, don’t stop now! Elaborate. I’m excited to hear this,” Apeksha said, her eyes sparkling with anticipation.

Aditya chuckled and began, his voice steady and warm. “So, that day, I was scrolling on Instagram when I saw a post that resonated with me. Something about it struck a chord, so I left a comment.”

Akriti picked up where he left off. “That post didn’t go well with me. I had a different perspective, so I commented too—a long paragraph, defending my stance.” She smirked slightly, recalling her fiery determination.

Aditya laughed lightly. “I happened to scroll through the comments and found hers. I don’t know what possessed me to read the entire thing, but I did. And I replied, expressing my own views.”

“And, of course, I defended myself,” Akriti added, her tone playful. “I replied back, and before we knew it, we were in a heated argument in the comment section.”

Aditya shook his head, smiling. “The account owner eventually stepped in and told us to stop fighting in his comments. That’s when we moved to DMs.”
