The sun had set, casting a heavy darkness over the neighborhood. Inside Jay's house, the atmosphere was tense. The news flickered on the old TV, and the solemn updates about the war filled the room with an unsettling weight. Reports of casualties and escalating violence made it hard to breathe.

In the kitchen, I stood with Jungwon, Sunoo, and Eunhee, preparing dinner. The air was thick with worry, and the sound of chopping vegetables seemed louder than usual.

"I can't believe how quickly everything has changed," Eunhee said, her voice barely above a whisper. "Just a few days ago, we were all fine."

"It's scary," Jungwon replied, glancing at the door. "I keep thinking about those who've already lost their lives. It makes it feel so real."

"We have to stay strong for them," I said, trying to keep my voice steady. "We can't let fear take over."

Sunoo leaned against the counter, his expression serious. "But what if it gets worse? What if they come here?"

I met his gaze, feeling the weight of his words. "Then we'll do whatever we need to protect each other. We're in this together."

Just then, Niki and Heeseung walked into the kitchen, their faces pale. "The news is reporting more attacks," Heeseung said, his voice low. "It sounds really bad out there."

Niki looked nervous, shifting his weight. "I don't want anything to happen to us. It's just... I can't stop thinking about it."

Eunhee placed a comforting hand on his shoulder. "We're going to be okay, Niki. We're all here together, and we'll figure this out."

"Yeah, we'll get through this," Jungwon added, his tone more reassuring. "Just focus on the moment. Right now, we're making dinner, and that's important."

As we worked together, I could feel the bond among us strengthening, even as the outside world grew darker. We were a family now, united against uncertainty.

"I'll take the first watch with Jay and Sunghoon after dinner," Jungwon said, stirring a pot on the stove. "We need to keep alert."

"I'll join you," I offered. "It's better if we stick together."

Eunhee smiled softly. "We'll be right here. Just make sure you all stay safe."

The kitchen buzzed with activity, but underneath it all was a shared understanding of the gravity of our situation. We were facing something terrifying, yet together we found small moments of hope amidst the fear.

As we finished cooking, the smell of dinner filled the house, offering a brief respite from the chaos outside. We gathered around the table, ready to eat, knowing that even in dark times, we needed to take care of ourselves and each other.
