As the night deepened, the soft sounds of breathing surrounded me, the rhythmic rise and fall creating a lullaby of comfort. One by one, my friends succumbed to sleep, their worries momentarily forgotten. Yet, I remained wide awake, my thoughts a whirlwind of fear and uncertainty.

I glanced down at Sunghoon, still resting on my lap, and couldn't help but worry about his injury. The lantern flickered, casting shadows that danced across the room, amplifying my unease.

Just as I was lost in my thoughts again, Sunghoon stirred, his eyes fluttering open. "Jake?" he murmured, still groggy.

"Yeah?" I whispered, my heart racing at the sound of his voice.

"Can I have some water?" he asked, his voice hoarse.

"Of course," I replied, gently shifting him off my lap so he could sit up. I reached for the water bottle we had found earlier, my hands trembling slightly. "Here you go."

He took the bottle "Thanks," he said, taking a few small sips.

After finishing the water, Sunghoon settled back against my lap, the warmth of his presence comforting. I resumed running my fingers through his hair, feeling a wave of calm wash over me.

"Jake," he murmured, his voice still soft, "I want you to know something."

"Yeah?" I replied, looking down at him, curious.

"No matter what happens, I'll always protect you," he said, his gaze serious. "Even if it means putting myself at risk. I won't let anything happen to you."

His words sent a shiver down my spine. "You don't have to carry that burden alone, Sunghoon. We're in this together."

He shook his head gently. "I know, but it's important to me. You mean so much to me. I want you to feel safe, especially now."

I felt a swell of emotions at his declaration. "You make me feel safe. I just want you to be okay."

A small smile tugged at his lips. "I'll be fine. We'll get through this. Just like a flower pushing through the cracks in concrete."

"Flowers?" I echoed, intrigued. "What do you mean?"

"Yeah," he said, his eyes brightening slightly. "Like resilience. Some flowers bloom in the harshest conditions, even when everything seems dark. They remind us that beauty can still exist amidst chaos."

I smiled at the thought, my mind wandering to my favorite flowers babies breath. "I love babies breath. They're so beautiful and delicate, yet they symbolize the fleeting nature of life. They remind us to appreciate each moment."

"Exactly," Sunghoon replied, his voice gaining strength. "Like us. We have to cherish every moment we have, especially now. Even in this uncertainty, there's beauty in our relationship and in our hope for the future."

"Do you think we'll see babies breath again?" I asked, my heart aching for a world beyond the darkness.

"We will," he said firmly. "Once this is all over, I promise we'll find a place to see them together. Underneath the blossoms, where it's safe and peaceful."

I nodded, feeling a sense of warmth spread through me at the thought. "That sounds perfect. Just you and me, surrounded by flowers."

"Just us," he echoed, a soft smile gracing his lips.

As we shared this quiet moment, I realized how much I treasured these conversations, how they grounded me amidst the chaos. The connection between us felt stronger than ever, a reminder that even in the darkest of times, we could find light in each other.

With Sunghoon resting peacefully on my lap, I felt a flicker of hope ignite in my heart. No matter the challenges ahead, I knew we would face them together, like flowers blooming bravely in the cracks of the world.
