“Bhezt!!! Have you opened it na?” excited na tanong ni Luna pagpasok ko palang ng classroom.
“Uy!” sabay kurot naman sa akin ni Bea, “Congrats girl!!! Gold medallist ka ulit sa Tae Kwon Do. I heard walang binatbat yung kalaban mo!” tuwang-tuwa namang dagdag niya while she sits beside my chair while I put down my things.
Hindi ko mapigilang mapatitig sa upuan niya, kasi sobrang kikay ng Bea na ‘to pati upuan niya nilagyan niya ng desk cover and may pictures pa ni Justin Bieber. I know!!! Don’t even!
“Thanks Bey…” hinarap ko naman si Luna, “ang hirap buksan ah! Balak mo bang abutin ako ng magpakailanman to open that photo journal?”sabayhawak sa bewang ko while she smirks.
“Well, you like challenges, right? So… I’m giving you one.” Then she smiled. She reached for her pocket sa skirt niya. “Here, sa sabado na daw yan.” She handed me an envelope.
“Is that the yearly Athletes’ ball?” biglang singit naman ni Lea na dumating na pala, hindi ko man lang napansin kaya sobrang nagulat ako and almost crumpled the invitation card. “Oooops, sorry Min.”
“It’s okay. Uhm, ito na nga yata yun.” I’m not actually looking forward to this. Our school has this farewell balls/parties sa mga seniors ng orgs, and nasa orgs yun kung kelan nila balak ganapin yung occasion. Athletics’ committee obviously chose February for reasons that I don’t know, meron na ngang prom na aalalahanin ang mga nasa seniors and juniors, pati ba naman ‘to?
“It sounds fun yang sa inyo. Kami sa Academics’ committee, boring yung mga ganyan namin. Have you ever been to one?” tanong naman ni Bea. “Mas fun yung themes ng sa inyo.”
“I haven’t, wala pang nag-iinvite sa akin eh.”
“You don’t have to get invited, di ba member ka ng Science club?” tanong naman ni Lea, “Every member can join. Too bad hindi man lang ako kasali sa kahit anong sports club.” She added, and now she looks really sad. Kung gusto mo palit tayo ng pupuntahan. I wanted to offer.
“Okay lang yan girl, join one na lang next year.” Luna said and patted her back, and I did the same.
I don’t particularly want to go to the ball this year pero kasi Ate Mia will be leaving the team, and it would be really rude of me not to see her off and transfer her duties kay Ate Katie. Iniiwasan ko as much as possible na makita sana si Duncan and now that the Tae Kwon Do season is over for this school year, wala na akong rason to skip yung pagsama sa tropa sa tambayan namin, sa soccer field.
I looked at my invitation card and I seem frightened to even open it, parang gusto ko nang sunugin na lang eh, para may rason akong hindi pumunta, kunwari na lang I forgot about it.
Lunch break came and went so fast, and ngayon dismissal na, parang ang bilis lumipas ng oras siguro dahil sobrang preoccupied ang utak ko at sobrang lumilipad na talaga ito sa kung saan-saan. “Tara.” Luna took my hand and ushered me towards the door.
Then she stopped walking nung nasa baba na kami ng hagdan, she checked her phone and read aloud, “Can’t tambay with you right now, gotta study. Finals.” Then she looked at me disappointed. “Text ni Kevin.”
