Aaron sighed, "is there no hope that she would wake up."There was a fire lit torch which sat on a wooden table beside where she lay. It's soft light reflected on her face giving her a sort of calm look that seemed to look as though she was alive and healthy, and asleep. But in actual fact, her skin had turned very white and pale. Her lips had become very chapped and the skin on her lips had become broken, in all a matter of a few minutes. It felt like with each passing second, her life was slowly slipping away. She looked like she was almost dead.
Numerous sweat beads had formed on her face as she lay there, her body unmoving and her breath, uneven. Aaron just stood there looking at the only hope he had now to retain the throne.
"Was I stupid, Almac?" Aaron asked the alchemist, absentmindedly.
Aaron felt his piercing gaze on the side of my cheek and it lingered for a few seconds.
He walked over to where she may holding a bowl in his hand as he did,
"What do you mean, Alpha?" He asked me.
He lowered himself on the bed next to Mia as he began to dab the sweat from the top of her forehead with a small cloth.
"I bet my throne on her." Aaron said simply,
"I still don't understand." Almac replied,
"I'm trying to say that, she has a few days to bring something to life but here she is on the verge of death." Aaron said, his voice was downcast and his expression was forlorn.
His hope seemed to be dying alongside Mia at this point. He sat there wondering why he was feeling so scared at what was happening.
Why was he so scared of losing the throne? Was that even going to happen? He was mostly scared of Mia losing her life. It would then be his fault if she did and he wasn't very sure he would be able to forgive himself if that happened.
He wished he could call the words of the council a bluff but then even the Alpha's before him were subject to whatever decree that they collectively made as long as the Alpha was concerned.
So, what chance did a stranger like him who only fought him way to that position possibly have?
"She just needs time. I am sure that she will wake up. But the certainty of when that would happen is still unknown to me. It could be tomorrow morning or in a month's time." Almac said.
"That's the exact point I am trying to make, Almac. There's no time. She has just one week to keep her end of the bargain and for me to keep my throne." Aaron said, defeat evident in his voice as he moved away from the wall where he had his back rested.
Almac's eyes grew wide but it only lasted for a very few seconds.
"She must be the one the maids and the other subjects have been talking about. In fact, nearly the whole Nyx pack members know of her. The one who's supposed to create some sort of currency that's supposed to make us the most powerful pack." Almac said.
The last thing Aaron needed was to bring that up right now. He was already feeling very bad and didn't want to add anything else to his turbulent soul.
Almac immediately stood up, sensing the restlessness of his Alpha.
"But, so far there's nothing bad that has been said about your decision to give her idea a try."
Aaron stopped to listen,
Almac noticed that he had grabbed Aaron's attention and at least his restlessness was now replaced with curiosity.
"Tell me what has been said." Aaron urged,
