A grunt escaped from Mia's lips as she struggled to get the jewels into the iron trams. She had almost gotten to the trams when the trowel she was with suddenly slipped from her hand and fell to the ground. Her leg tripped on the jewels that had fallen and her eyes grew wide as she fell on her bum and on some of the pointy surface of the jewels pricked her bum.
She groaned as her hand flew to her bum, rubbing it as she tried to stand, to try to soothe the pain she felt down there.
"Catch you later, slow poke." A worker threw down at her as they passed in groups out of the mines.
They were actually so happy with what they were doing and had no care in the world. They were satisfied with where they were. She wondered what made them do such rigorous work with so much ease even when they suffered so much in the process?
She had found out why and it broke her heart.
Oh! She didn't have to think further. Those rigorous works like she called it were simple tasks to them because they had their wolves. They weren't weak like she was.
She sighed at that thought as she picked up the fallen jewels and placed them all back into the pan. She then struggled one last time and this time, she was able to get it into the tram.
She used the back of her dirty hands to wipe the sweat from her face. Then she climbed out of the pit and moved to push the tram.
She looked behind her to see that the once filled mine was now empty and she was the only one who was left inside.
She has no choice. She pushed the tram along the iron tracks until it got to the furnace. She was told that she had to melt it by her colleagues who worked in the same pit with her.
EARLIER IN THE DAY
"you're sure you're a Werewolf?" One of the ladies who worked at the pit asked her with a mocking smile on her face but Mia didn't really take it as offensive because she was sort of used to it already.
There were two others who didn't spare her a glance so Mia felt grateful that at least someone finally spoke to her.
She blinked a few times and then turned to her, "pardon?"
The lady scoffed and then walked over to Mia. Her brown hair, which was obviously long, was tied in a bun on top of her head. The dress she wore, a simple cream fabric stained with dust and dirt from digging through the earth so much.
Some of the dirt stains didn't seem like they would ever come off and that's when it dawned on Mia that that was the dress the lady usually used to work in the mine because if it wasn't then it wouldn't have ages long stains on it.
"You're not using claws to dig. Have you never done this before or are you part of the Alphadom?" She asked.
Mia smiled and then looked away from the lady, "I'm not from around here actually and I've never had to do this before either." She replied simply.
The lady nodded her head with raised brows but not in curiosity, more like in understanding.
"I see." She commented.
Mia then continued to dig through the soil. The diamonds she had found weren't so many. Just a few, not even close to two dozen. Her pan was so scanty and she didn't think she'd be able to make much of the jewel currency she hoped to make with so little.
She knew that she was going to make a lot of mistakes and she needed enough jewels to work with.
"But where you come from, aren't they werewolves? Or are you something else that we don't know about? Maybe a-" she paused and then made a sort of weird expression with her mouth, "a Lycan?" She finally asked.
