Next, we meet MermaidAriel13, whose dark tales of demons, angels, and forbidden love hook readers with their thinning boundaries between obsession and romance. She's also written her fair share of fanfiction, putting her twist on paranormal series like Death Note and Supernatural.
Interview:
1. What's the story behind your Wattpad Username, if any?
I'm a huge fan of The Little Mermaid, so that was a no-brainer, and 13 is my lucky number.
2. What led you to Wattpad initially? Did you join to read or write?
I was just looking for fan fiction lol. I wanted to see how people were writing this because I wanted to do a Supernatural FanFiction myself but didn't know how to start, so my Wattpad journey began as research. Once I got a good feel of the land, I started posting DAUGHTER OF HEAVEN first - which is still ongoing and has the most readers of all my stories – then my novel, which got the ball rolling for everything else. It's been five years since joining Wattpad, and I haven't regretted it yet.
3. How long have you been writing?
I can't really put an exact age on it. I was already a big reader from the moment I learned how to, so stories have always been a big part of my life. My earliest recollection of writing a story from start to finish was for a class assignment when I was eight, and we had to mix fairy tales with a common villain – mine was Three Little Pigs and Little Red Riding Hood. But, I started being more enthusiastic and passionate about it during my first job at an international airport. Shifts and stress were crazy, and I needed another creative outlet (because I'm not really into sports), hence writing.
4. Do you like to write in the same genres you read? What are your favorite genres?
I'm a diverse and flexible reader. There are very few things I don't enjoy reading about. Some of my favorite authors are Diana Gabaldon, Philippa Gregory, Cassandra Clare, Edgar Allan Poe, and Alexandre Dumas. What will one hundred percent get me on board, and what I thus write myself, is drama. The kind that makes your heart wrench inside your chest, that makes you want to keep tissues close at hand, and that makes you both love and hate the author for putting you through such torture. Besides the above, my absolute favorite genres are paranormal, horror, mystery-crime, and historical of any kind. I'll read romance, but I prefer it to be a subgenre and not the main focus of the story.
