Title of Book: The Golden Thread: A Modern Cajun Fairy Tale

Favorite Authors: Madeleine L'Engle, Jane Austen, Oscar Wilde

Bio: I'm a portrait painter, wife, and mom to three amazing kids. We live on a fifth generation family farm where we raise a plethora of animals and plants.

Can you explain what your book is all about?

It's a modern reworking of classic Cajun fairytales. This coming-of-age story follows Josie Breaux as she learns to control her magical powers and faces down the evil she finds around her.

Who is your target audience - and why?

I wrote this with older teens in mind, although I've had quite a lot of older people who've told me the love it.

What is 'paranormal' about your story?

There are "ghosts" in a manner of speaking in this story, and also feufollet (Cajun will-o-wisps), but there are little paranormal elements throughout.

Does it contain other genre elements, if so which ones - and why?

Well, of course given the main character is 17 it's a YA fiction, and there is a bit of romance in it as well. I went back and forth between putting it into the "fantasy" genera of "paranormal," but I tend to think of high fantasy when I think of that genera so went with paranormal.

Tell us about your writing process - how do you get from story idea to a Wattpad published story?

With lots of coffee and tears. No, honestly, I set aside a schedule that I tried like the dickens to stick to of releasing at least one new chapter a week. Putting in on Wattpad helped me a lot because normally when I write I want to delete and rewrite until the story is almost unrecognizable, and you really can't do that here without upsetting people.

Did you encounter any challenges when writing, if so - how did you overcome them?

My main challenge is time. I homeschool my kids, paint, and help my husband run the farm. It's a lot of work, and so I have to make time to write.

You often hear that 'writing well' is the baseline for success. What does that mean for you?

I don't really know what "writing well" consists of, honestly. I think some people write extremely well but get sucked into trying to pull off this style or that one, and so they're not being true to their inner voice and it shows. I've seen people write well in very classical prose and others use slang the whole time. It just depends on the person writing.

One final question, this being the Paranormal genre: Have you ever had a paranormal experience?

Haha, no. I actually lived for a while in an apartment in what used to be a hospital; it had a morgue in it at one time. There weren't any ghosts. It was kind of disappointing, actually.
