It had been an early morning, Glisten neatly settled on Rodger's chest. The blankets felt soft, and the air was just the right temperature. Rodger, still half asleep, gently ran his fingers up and down the back of Glisten's head, making the mirror toon smile contentedly. What could possibly go wrong? What could turn their days upside down?
A knock at the door made Glisten lift his hand, and made Rodger pause his affections. Glisten climbed out of bed, rubbing his eyes as he adjusted his pajamas. "I've got it," The mirror toon mumbled, making his way to the door. Rodger nodded, sitting up and watching Glisten silently.
"Good morning," Glisten pulled the door open, to see an unfamiliar toon. A white, bird-like fellow with a soft white bundle in their beak and a blue vest around their torso. Glisten heard Rodger shoot up a little when the door was open, but he didn't turn around, "Can I help you?"
"Mister Glisten, Mister Rodger, I have wonderful news!" The stork spoke quickly. Glisten didn't even have time to speak before he felt Rodger's hand on his shoulder, his look more serious.
"Seriously? Again? The producers can't possibly be sending another toon to us!"
"What? Rodger, do you know this fellow? Who is he?"
The stork looked a bit awkward. They didn't move very much, seemingly not wanting to shake the little bundle in their grasp. The stork began to speak, "Mister Glisten, you're new to this. I am the stork! The producers send me with little bundles of joy when they see fit! I've already brought Mister Rodger a little one, I think Toodles was her name, but I've been told to bring another for the both of you!"
Rodger clasped his hand over his eye. He looked annoyed, while Glisten looked stunned. Before they could respond, the stork pushed the bundle of blankets into Glisten's arms, and waved before running off to who knows where in the facility.
"I... What? That's where Toodles came from? What did that guy even give us?"
Rodger looked to Glisten, his gaze softening, "If it's anything like the last time they showed up at my door, a child. And yes... It's how I got Toodles."
Glisten slowly pulled the blankets away to see a little toon. A golden frame held thick glass, much like Rodger's own face. A long, curvy handle extended from one side, though intricate patterns ran along the frame of this tiny toon's body. Glisten looked startled, a bit frightened, even. He looked to Rodger, searching for answers, for an idea of what to do. Rodger looked back at Glisten, holding out his arms to take the little thing.
Glisten handed the infant over. It looked like the two of them, a magnifying glass with Glisten's attributes. Rodger gently rocked the child, a soft cooing sound escaping him. Glisten gestured back to their room, and both toons entered back into their private quarters.
"Rodger... How are we supposed to do this? How did this even happen?"
Rodger sighed, "They most likely wanted to get a new toon for another season, or they wanted to create merchandise... Either way, they gave us this little dear to take care of."
Rodger sat down on the bed, Glisten joining him. Glisten held out his arms, taking the child back carefully. They were cute, asleep and holding the blanket in a tiny fist. They didn't seem to have a mouth, they got that trait from Rodger, it seemed. Glisten hesitantly rocked the little toon, trying to follow the way he'd seen Rodger do it earlier.
"So... We're parents of two now? What do we even call them?"
They both stared down at the little face. They hadn't exactly gotten time to plan for this, how could they have picked out a name? Rodger sighed, his eye shutting as he tried to think of something. Glisten just tried to focus on keeping their newly bestowed child asleep, though he didn't have a clue what he was doing or if it was correct.
"...Glimmer?"
Rodger offered a name. It was clear he was trying to follow something similar to Glisten's name. Glisten sighed, nodding.
"It will have to do for now. We'll think of something better when we have time."
Glisten lightly leaned against Rodger. In no less than an hour, their family had grown from three to four. Would they know what they were doing? He'll if they knew. But they were in it together, forever and always. Nothing would stop them from trying.
