The sun peaked through the windows or Gardenview, sending thin tendrils of light trickling through curtains and onto the bodies of sleeping toons. Glisten was the first to be awoken by the light, he'd always been easy to wake. Glisten yawned, taking in his surroundings slowly. Glisten was laying on top of Rodger, his arms splayed across the mattress and his head resting lightly against Rodger's shoulder.
Speaking of Rodger, the man was still fast asleep, snoring away. Rodger was harder to rouse, he often needed sound, such as an alarm, or a firm shake to get up properly. Glisten didn't mind, however, it gave him all the more reason to pester his beloved. Today, however, both toons had the day off. They could take it slow, and just enjoy the day.
Glisten started to pull himself up out of bed, drawing a groan from Rodger. The loss of weight on his chest finally seemed to wake him up. Glisten smiled at Rodger, watching him as he came to the realization that he existed, and was awake. Rodger blinked with a cycloptic eye, the lid still halfway shut. Rodger wrapped his arms back around Glisten's waist, pulling him back into bed.
"Rodger! I can't go back to sleep!" Glisten tried to protest as Rodger pushed him back onto the mattress. As Rodger flopped down on top of him, he couldn't help but wheeze, not expecting the sudden weight. Rodger blinked at Glisten, before tapping their frames together once more.
"Just wait a few more minutes. Let me wake up a bit, I don't like when you sneak off in the mornings."
"I figured you'd like a morning case to solve Rodger. Figure out where your darling partner is."
"Mfh..." Rodger merely huffed. All formality left the room in the mornings, Rodger certainly hated being up early. Though, considering Rodger's habit of staying up until sunrise half the week, Glisten couldn't blame him. Glisten sighed, wrapping his arms around Rodger. The detective seemed satisfied, snuggling up to his beloved mirror without hesitation. It took Rodger a few minutes to full wake up, but he liked listening to Glisten. It gave him something to do.
"Any dreams last night?"
"Oh, my dear, I'm glad you asked! Well, I was on stage, and there was a huge audience, all eyes on me! And then..."
Glisten continued speaking for a while, leaving Rodger to listen to him. Glisten certainly enjoyed talking, and Rodger enjoyed listening. All the little things he knew were important to Glisten were memorized, known for every detail and aspect they could ever have. Rodger eventually lifted his head, a sparkle in his eye as he watched Glisten's smiling face.
When Glisten finished talking about his dream, he smiled back at Rodger. Rodger hummed, waiting a few moments before Glisten spoke again. He didn't want to interrupt.
"What about you, my dear? Any pleasant dreams last night?" Glisten asked curiously.
"I'm glad you asked, my love. I had the most wonderful dream about a case I went on, there were so many details..."
Rodger began to speak. Glisten listened in return, smiling and nodding along. While Rodger tended to prefer listening to Glisten talk, it was important to listen to each other, not just one. So, they took turns swapping stories, starting with their dreams.
Neither toon realized, until looking at the alarm clock on their nightstand, that it was nearly ten in the morning. Rodger climbed off of Glisten, letting the mirror toon finally get ready for the day.
"What should we do today, my dear?" Glisten asked as he made his way to the vanity, getting started with his makeup and morning routine.
"Hmm... How about a lazy day? Just stay in bed, watch some movies, eat some snacks. I bought some of those chocolates you like the other day, the filled ones with the dried fruit on top."
"You did?" Glisten turned to smile at Rodger, blushing. Glisten looked delighted, "A lazy day it will be, then! But a lazy day won't stop me from being drop dead gorgeous."
"You're always gorgeous to me, my darling." Rodger approached Glisten, wrapping his arms around the toon's shoulder. Glisten tilted his head back to meet Rodger's loving gaze.
"And you're the most stunning toon I've ever seen." Glisten hummed in response, lifting a clean makeup brush to gently swipe against Rodger's glass.
"I love you," Rodger chuckled at the delicate bristles against his face, leaning down to tap their frames together.
"I love you, too, Rodger." Glisten returned the tap eagerly, before he turned his attention back to the vanity. It would be a good day, they could both feel it in their hearts. And even if it wasn't, they had eachother, and that made every day better. It always would.
