[A slight continuation of Forbidden, but can stand alone just fine! :3 ]
Rodger silently wandered the halls of Gardenview. He'd been searching for Glisten all day, but he couldn't find his darling mirror. In fact, the posters and stand alone pictures of Glisten had been removed entirely. Rodger was starting to get worried.
Rodger took a deep breath. Maybe they were repainting the walls? A few other posters were taken down as well. Though, Rodger had a bad feeling in his gut. Glisten wouldn't usually hide from him like this, in fact, it was usually the opposite. Rodger made his way to the toon rooms, spotting a few solemn faces. Rodger made his way to Glisten's room in silence, knocking.
Rodger was met by silence. He half expected to hear Glisten crying, hoping that was why he'd been hiding away, but there was nothing. No shuffling of blankets, no sweet hum, no sniffles. Just pure and utter silence.
Rodger was about to knock again when Sprout placed a hand on his shoulder. The main toon looked serious. He didn't quite get along with Rodger, so the sudden change in demeanor made Rodger freeze. Sprout began to speak, a sorrow in his voice.
"He's gone, Rodger. The handlers took him for deconstruction this morning, before we were awake. They got more complaints about him, the ratings were going down. I'm sorry, Rodger."
Rodger blinked. He shook his head, praying it was a joke, but Sprout's tone made it obvious that this was nothing of the sort. Still, Rodger refused to believe it.
"No, no, no! He couldn't be... I'm sure he's just upset in his room, I'll go cheer him up, get him out of his state and get him up again!"
"Rodger..." Sprout tried to speak again, but the detective tore out of Sprout's grip, opening the door to see...
Nothing. The room was stripped bare, all of Glisten's things were gone. The walls were painted a simple white, all the posters were taken down. The bed was stripped, only a mattress remained. The carpets were rolled up in plastic, leaning against the wall and waiting to be taken. The vanity was gone, the wood and mirror laying on the ground, waiting to be taken care of.
Reality settled in. They really had gotten rid of Glisten... He was gone. Rodger stood in the center of the room, just staring around. He remembered the nights before, where Glisten confessed he thought the producers were going to trash him, where Rodger had sworn to keep him safe.
"He's..." Rodger trailed off. He couldn't bring himself to say it. Glisten was gone, maybe dead. Nobody knew what happened to deconstructed toons, but that's what the staff called it. Rodger hoped it wasn't painful.
Rodger couldn't bear to stand, collapsing to his knees. He spotted the old polaroids of Glisten, mixed with piles of dust on the floor, and grabbed them up. He couldn't have the last of his lover tossed away, not like this. Rodger stared down at the photos, tear streaming from his eyes.
Glisten was gone. He was never coming back, there was nothing Rodger could do. The hatred of people outside these walls had sealed his fate, but Rodger would never forget him. His lover, his everything, would love on his heart, no matter who told him otherwise. Rodger swore it, for Glisten's sake, for his memory, he'd never give up.
