Marjorie was working the late shift, however, she was in a relatively good mood after all of her birthday celebrations over the weekend. It was about 5:20 and she was due to finish at 6. She began typing on her computer but she heard footsteps and looked up. Ivy was stood there.

"Hey" she said.

"You alright?" Marjorie asked.

"Yeah, you busy?" Ivy replied.

Marjorie knew she was busy but instead she lied "uh no, you're back sooner than I thought though"

"Yeah.." ivy replied taking a seat in Marjorie's office.

"Have you told your parents?" Marjorie asked.

"Told them what?" Ivy replied.

"That you've seen me." She said.

"No." Ivy responded shyly

"Why not?" Marjorie said moving closer to her.

"They'll kill me. Please just let it be our little secret?" Ivy begged.

Marjorie felt a sense of awkwardness "don't worry my love, they will find out at some point though."

"I know, can we just not talk about them, they're horrible." Ivy said, her voice breaking.

"Oh sweetheart, I'm so sorry." Marjorie's heart sank.

"Do you love me?" Ivy asked.

"Obviously, in my own way, that's quite personal to be honest, we don't really know each other.." Marjorie giggled.

"We can get to know each other."

Marjorie shrugged "I don't see why not."

"Do I have any siblings?" Ivy asked.

"No, but maybe one day." Marjorie smiled. "I should really be locking up now though, do you wanna come with?"

"I'd love to" Ivy smiled.

Marjorie drove her and Ivy back to her house. The car journey was a little awkward, Marjorie parked the car on the drive and Ivy said "gosh your house is nice."

Marjorie laughed and walked round to Ivy's side and opened the door for her. "I think Reece is home, do you wanna meet him?"

"Sure" she smiled as Marjorie unlocked the door and slid out of her heels. She then shut the door behind Ivy as she walked into the house.

"Hey gorgeous" Reece said as he greeted Marjorie. "And you are?"

"Ivy" she looked at Reece "nice to meet you" she said shyly and smiled.

"You look just like your mum." Reece smiled.

"I'll get us all a drink?" Marjorie offered as she walked into the kitchen.

The three took a seat on the sofa as Marjorie handed them both a cup of coffee. "What time do you need to be home my love?" She asked Ivy.

"About 7ish, I can be a little late, I'll walk though"

Reece interrupted "I'll drop you, don't worry"

Marjorie smiled "Ivy, sweetheart, I really think you should tell your parents about this, it's serious"

"I will, I'm just not ready yet, I know my mum will stop me from seeing you, and I've only just met you but I want to know you, and Reece." She complained.

"Make sure you tell her at some point, please. And I can't control how she reacts to this, it's a closed adoption darling, it's completely up to her whether you're allowed see me or not."

Reece nodded in agreement.

"You're quite literally the mum I never had, I can't loose you Marjorie, seriously I can't." She threw her arms around Marjorie.

"I know darling, I know. I'm here for now though" she says kissing the top of her daughter's head.

"I'll leave you two to it." Reece got up and left the room "let me know when you want a lift home Ivy" he added.

Marjorie pulled away from the hug "one question before you go.."

"Yeah?"

"How did you find me?" Marjorie asked.

"Your name, on my birth certificate, as soon as I had your name I could quite easily find everything else." She smiled

"Fair enough, I think Reece is waiting in the car for you, see you soon my love"

"Why don't we go out for food one day this week? Just us?" Ivy asked.

"I'd love that, text me later" Marjorie smiled.

As Ivy was walking out of the front door she said "bye mum, love you"

Marjorie felt that, being called 'mum' and Ivy telling her she loved her, made her heart warm.

Later on, Marjorie's phone buzzed with a text from Ivy..

Ivy: hey, just wondering if you're free tomorrow? We could go and grab some food tomorrow afternoon if you can?

Marjorie: yeah I can my love, what time to be exact? so I can book the afternoon off of work x

Ivy: I can do 3, or later if you'd prefer x

Marjorie: no, 3 is perfect my love, come to my nursery just beforehand and I'll drive us xx

Ivy: okay, see you then, love you.

Marjorie: see you then sweetheart xx

Reece noticed Marjorie smiling at her phone. "Who you texting?"

"Ivy, going to meet her tomorrow afternoon and grab some food."

"She really does love you Marjorie."

"She's only just met me, don't be daft." Marjorie laughed.

"I'm being serious, the way she looks at you and the way she threw her arms around you and sobbed, she even told you she loves you."

"Well as much as she loves me, I'm not her mum."

"She wants you to be though." Reece added.

"No matter how much she wants me to be, it was a closed adoption, I can't change my mind now, especially since it's been 15 years." Marjorie giggled.
