T/W: abuse.

The next day, was Christmas Day. Serena was only five days old so nor Marjorie or Reece had had a wink of sleep. It was their first Christmas as a family of three, Reece spoiled Marjorie and their daughter with gifts, even though they were lacking sleep.. they had the best Christmas ever.

One week later..

Christmas break was over for all the staff at the nursery, which meant Reece had to go back to work. He was the first to wake up, both Marjorie and Serena were fast asleep.. until he heard a cry.
He ran over to the crib and gently swayed with his daughter in his arms, he took her downstairs so her crying wouldn't wake Marjorie.

He stood in the kitchen rocking her, she still wouldn't stop crying. "It's okay sweet, mummy will wake up soon, please stop crying." He whispered.

She still wouldn't stop crying.

About 5 minutes later, Marjorie walked into the kitchen, Reece was unaware that she was there as he stood whispering to his daughter. "Are you hungry? Are you tired? What's wrong sweetheart?" He panicked.

Marjorie rubbed her eyes. "Reece." She said holding her arms out.

"Morning gorgeous." He smiled as he passed Serena over to Marjorie.

As Serena was placed into Marjorie's arms, her cries became lighter. "Shh, it's alright my darling." Marjorie spoke softly. When Serena heard Marjorie's voice she stopped crying almost instantly.

Reece looked confused. "How did you just do that? I've been trying to get her to stop for the last twenty minutes!!"

Marjorie smiled. "I don't know, I guess she just wanted her mummy." Marjorie shrugged. She held the baby in one arm and began preparing a bottle.

Reece noticed Marjorie struggling. "Do you need a hand gorgeous?" He asked.

"Yeah just hold her for a second, she's hungry." Marjorie smiled.

Reece rocked Serena while Marjorie prepared a bottle. Once she'd finished, she took the baby back into her arms and fed her.

"I don't want to go to work." Reece moaned.

"You have to my love, I'm sure everyone's missed you, and if you stayed home with me you'd just get bored." She shrugged. "You'll be so busy anyway, the day will go by so quick you won't even notice." She laughed.

"I don't want to leave you two." He sighed.

"It's only two months my darling, then we'll both be there with you, Serena will be in the baby room and I'll be back in my office." Marjorie rolled her eyes.

"I know, I need to go and get ready." He smiled lightly.

Marjorie smiled as Reece made his way upstairs, she stood in the kitchen rocking Serena, tickling her.. until she started to cry again. "No, no my sweet. It's okay." She smiled. "Mummy's here." She placed a gentle kiss on Serena's head.

About ten minutes later, Reece walked back into the kitchen. "I'm leaving now." He spoke dryly.

"Alright my love, are you okay?" She asked.

Reece nodded. "Call me if you need anything." He smiled.

Marjorie could tell he was anxious, she followed him to the door. "Reece. Please, stop worrying, you're on the early shift, you won't be there long."   Marjorie smiled.

"I love you." He said as he walked towards his car.

"I love you too." Marjorie responded as she closed the door and wandered into the living room with Serena in her arms.
