It was a 5:30 in the morning, both Marjorie and Reece were working the early shift at the nursery.
Marjorie's eyes fluttered open at the sound of the alarm, Reece was already awake."Morning gorgeous." He smiled, pulling his jumper over his head. "How you feeling today?" He asked.
Marjorie stood up and made the bed. She frowned "I'm alright I suppose, not sick for once." She rolled her eyes.
For once, Marjorie didn't feel the need to wear one of Reece's hoodies, since a few people were already aware of the pregnancy. She felt like she needed a change, she wanted to wear something different.
She wore a red lacy top, with a black blazer, black skirt, tights and her red bottomed heels (which by the way, only made an appearance on special occasions.)
Once she'd finished getting dressed, she moved onto makeup, she went natural but added a black/brown Smokey eye and curled her hair.
Reece walked into the bathroom with a glass of water and one of Marjorie's anti sickness pills. He froze, his jaw dropped.
"What?" She shrugged.
"You look amazing." He handed her the pill and the water while planting a kiss on her head.
"Thank you my love." She smiled. "You ready to go?"
___________
Surprisingly, autumn had arrived at the nursery before Marjorie and Reece, her red jaguar was the only car in the car park. Reece parked the car and walked over to Marjorie's side as he always does, opened the door for her and took her hand.
Once they were inside, Reece gave Marjorie a kiss goodbye. She turned on her heel and walked into the office.
"Morning autumn." Marjorie said solemnly.
"Marjorie." Autumn looked up and frowned.
"What?" Marjorie spat.
"You look- different." Autumn sounded slightly confused.
"Fancied a change." Marjorie said as she sat down on her chair. The phone rang.
"Hello the knight nursery, what can I do for you?"
It was Ivy.
"Mum!! I didn't think you were going to answer."
"Hello Ivy." Marjorie didn't even crack a smile.
"Sorry, I haven't been able to ring you, but I've got my phone back now." Ivy smiled.
"Isn't that great." Marjorie said in a dull tone.
"Yeah, can I come see you later?" Ivy asked.
"Sorry, I've got plans later. We can arrange something another time. I've got to go now Ivy."
Marjorie hung up.Throughout the day, Everyone noticed that Marjorie was acting strange, she was dressed differently, her voice sounded dull and lifeless, she didn't smile and she was quite short tempered.
Even Marjorie didn't feel like herself, she didn't know if it was hormones or she was genuinely unhappy, maybe it was for the best?
Marjorie's drab mood was most noticeable when a parent stormed into the office to make a complaint.
"Marjorie."
Marjorie took a deep breath. Instead of saying 'yes my love?' She simply replied with "yes?"
"There is mud, on my daughter's coat." The parent whined.
"The children have been outside today. I don't know what you want us to do about it." She shrugged.
"I know, but I paid £300 for that coat, I do not expect it to be covered in mud." The parent spat.
Marjorie rolled her eyes and stood up. "If you know the children are going to be playing outside, why would you send your daughter in wearing a £300 coat? It's winter, it is also raining. Use your brain, common sense.. what do you expect?" She snapped.
The parent was taken aback by Marjorie's response "I expect your staff to do their job and clean my daughter's coat if it gets dirty"
"My staff are doing their jobs, I'm pretty sure cleaning a child's coat was not in the job description, take the coat home and bloody clean it yourself. Now if you'd excuse me I've got places to be."
Marjorie turned on her heel and left the office, you could hear the sound of her heels from a mile away.
As she was walking down the corridor she thought to herself: was she seriously falling back into her villain era?
Charlotte stuck her head out of the door and ushered Marjorie in, almost as if she was asking for help.
Marjorie walked into the room and rolled her eyes "Charlotte I don't have time for this, what is it?"
"C-can Carly go home? She's honestly too ill to be here, and I really don't think she should be around the kids. She was too scared to come and ask you herself." Charlotte asked.
Marjorie took a deep breath. "Fine. She can go home."
"Okay, by the way. You look amazing today." Charlotte smiled.
"Appreciate it." Marjorie said sarcastically as she stood at the door with her arms crossed.
Marjorie then made her way back to her office, she felt awful about the way she'd been treating her staff, she knew she needed to fix it. Instead she just put on her best smile.. and tried to stay calm.
She called Ivy, since she also felt terrible for the way she snapped at her on the phone earlier.. the guilt was really eating her up.
Marjorie sat fiddling with the phone wire, waiting for Ivy to pick up.
"Hello?" Ivy asked.
"Ivy? Is that you?"
"Hey."
"Thank god, I'm so sorry for how I spoke to you earlier my darling." Marjorie's voice was breaking.
"No, no it's fine don't worry about it. I don't care. I'm more bothered about my mum. I'm in massive trouble."
"Why? What's happened? Talk to me sweetheart." Marjorie sounded concerned.
"I cant, it's my mum. I have to listen to her, I can't be messing about anymore. I'm sorry." Ivy hung up the phone before Marjorie could get another word in.
"Ivy wait.."
Marjorie clenched the phone in her hand, and she began to sob.
Was she ever going to hear from her daughter again?
