It was the morning of the scan. Marjorie was the first to wake up and headed downstairs to make herself a coffee. She stirred the coffee and heard footsteps. Ivy walked into the kitchen with a smile on her face.
"Morning my love, you alright? How are you feeling?" Marjorie asked, in her raspy tone.
"I'm okay." Ivy smiled slightly. "How are you?" She asked.
"I'm okay." Marjorie smiled as she walked toward the fridge to grab her jar of pickles.
"Eww! Pickles!??" Ivy laughed.
"There's that laugh I've missed ever so much!"
"Okay, but they absolutely stink." Ivy giggled.
Marjorie rolled her eyes before putting the jar back in the fridge. "Fine, I'll put them back." She said jokingly.
"It's a bit early, you sure you don't wanna go back to sleep for a while?" Marjorie asked while yawning.
"Out of the two of us, you seem much more tired. But no, I think I'm gonna go to school." Ivy smiled.
"Sweetheart, you were discharged from hospital yesterday.. I'm not gonna stop you but are you sure?"
"Yep, I'll go get ready now." She smiled.
"Okay."
As Ivy walked out of the kitchen, Reece walked in.
"Hey gorgeous, how are we today?" He asked.
"I'm alright." She beamed.
"You're absolutely glowing." He smiled as he admired her.
"Aw reece, don't be silly I've just woken up." She brushed off the compliment.
"I'm being serious, anyway you ready for the scan today?"
"I'm so nervous, I'll be fine though." She muttered.
"Exactly, what's there to worry about.. any more news on Ivy's mum or not?" He asked.
"Well, Ivy's 'aunt' is in town, Clara's sister but Ivy's allowed to stay with us until we hear anything." She sighed.
"Are you okay with that? Like taking care of a teenager, I mean she's your child but like that's a big responsibility." He sounded concerned.
"Of course I am reece- she practically takes care of herself, she's leaving for college as soon as she finishes school anyway, there's nothing to worry about darling. I promise." She smiled.
"Okay."
"Plus, if you think taking care of Ivy is a big responsibility, wait until this baby arrives." She laughed.
Ivy walked into the room, she was wearing her black Chanel flats, a coffee brown pleated skirt with a shirt and tie. "I'm gonna leave soon." She smiled.
Marjorie smiled, Ivy reminded her so much of herself at that age. "Alright my darling, have you got lunch?" She asked.
"Yeah, I'll just grab something later it's fine."
Ivy turned around and stared at her reflection in the mirror.Reece began preparing breakfast and Marjorie walked towards Ivy.
Ivy let out a loud sigh as she stared at herself.
"You look stunning, my love." Marjorie placed a hand on Ivy's shoulder.
"Yeah, right." She rolled her eyes. "My shoulders in this shirt they look.." she was interrupted.
"Stop it. Come upstairs I've got something for you." Marjorie said as she lead Ivy upstairs and into her bedroom.
"What is it!?" Ivy giggled.
Marjorie grabbed a necklace from her vanity and fastened it around Ivy's neck. She then gave her a quick spritz of her favourite perfume. "Now you are ready to go, you look fine sweetheart, I know your mum used to make silly comments but you need to forget it, she was wrong."
"Okay, I'll try." Ivy smiled slightly.
Marjorie smiled at Ivy as she left the room and then began to plan her outfit for the day.
She slipped on some black low rise trousers which she paired with her red bottomed heels, and pulled a grey jumper over her head.
After Reece and her had finished their breakfast, they made their way to their ultrasound appointment, once they were there, they were told everything was okay, both Marjorie and the baby were fine. They were given the gender in an envelope which they were to reveal later that day at home, as a family with Ivy. After the appointment, Marjorie and Reece made their way to the nursery.
Marjorie had tonnes of work to do that day, she'd recently noticed that her back had started to ache, but that day it absolutely killed.
After a long four hours of writing reports and dealing with needy parents, Reece walked into the office.
"Hey gorgeous." He smiled.
"Hello you." Marjorie forced a smile as she winced due to the back pain.
"What's wrong?" He rushed toward her.
"Just a sore back that's all, Ivy's home from school she's waiting for us so we'd better go darling." She stood up, took Reece's hand and they made their way to the car.
The ten minute car journey home felt like hours to them both, they were soon to be revealing the gender of the baby, even Ivy was nervous waiting at home, she'd always wanted to be a big sister.
Reece unlocked the door, they both stepped inside the house, Marjorie slipped her heels off and Reece hung his coat up.
Ivy came running to the door. "Finally!! You're home!!" She squealed with excitement.
"You alright my love? How was school?" Marjorie asked.
"Eh- my boyfriend and I broke up, he cheated on me."
Marjorie frowned "oh- I'm sorry."
Reece laughed "I'll set aut on him."
Ivy let out a little laugh. "No it's fine, nothing can bring me down from the high I'm on right now, where's the envelope?" She asked.
"Over there." Marjorie pointed to the envelope which was sat on the dining room table.
The three sat down on the sofa. Reece handed Ivy the envelope. "I think you should open it kid." He said.
"I'd love to." She smiled.
Ivy slowly opened up the envelope. She held it close to her chest so nor Marjorie or Reece could see. "You are having..." she paused to read it.
"A girl!!!"
Marjorie threw her arms around Reece and sobbed.
Reece smiled "a mini Marjorie, I wouldn't mind that." He winked.
"A little girl, i knew it!! Right from the beginning." Marjorie giggled.
"I'm actually so happy for you both, I swear you're gonna make the best parents." Ivy smiled. "By the way." She started.
"Yeah?" Marjorie looked up at her.
"I got accepted into college." Ivy smiled. "I don't know if you're gonna like it though.." she began.
"Why my love?" Marjorie sounded concerned.
"I got into Cambridge, on a bachelor of laws degree." She sighed.
"Ivy- that's amazing, I don't know why you're not excited about this, plus you don't leave until the summer, so it's fine we've got time." Marjorie comforted her.
"I know, and I'll be home on weekends but I'm gonna miss you guys."
"We'll miss you too sweetheart.. how about we make the most of the time we do have together?"
Marjorie suggested."Sounds good to me." Reece smiled.
Ivy wasn't looking forward to leaving for college, she was a very bright and outgoing girl but part of her didn't want to leave.. she didn't want to study law, her mum wanted her to.
She wanted to work in a nursery...
