Marjorie was blinded by how upset she was, she could no longer tell what emotion she was experiencing. She didn't know if she felt angry, or sad, maybe she was confused?
She'd spent the night talking to Reece, she explained to him what happened with Ivy. He comforted her to the best of his ability. "Marjorie, look at me." He said softly.
Marjorie looked up, her eyes were red and puffy.
"If it's meant to be.. then it'll be, it's out of your control."
Marjorie took a deep breath. "I know that Reece, she needs help. She says she hates me.. so what have I done? Reece I feel terrible.. she doesn't love me anymore." She cried.
"She does love you gorgeous. You've made a massive impact on her, she's changed for the better. There's got to be a reason for all this, we will get to the bottom of this."
"How have I made a massive impact on her? She told me I'm a terrible human being.. maybe she's right." Marjorie sank into the sofa.
"Listen to this," Reece began. "What is a person? If not, the marks they leave behind?"
Marjorie was speechless, she simply couldn't answer the question.
"Think about it, I'll get dinner started.. what are we craving today?" He giggled, gesturing toward Marjorie's stomach.
"Surprise me." Marjorie said, her voice was raspy and lifeless.
One thing about Marjorie was that, she always cared, she always cared a little too much, which caused her to overthink. She sat on the sofa, staring into space.
Somewhere in between, hello and goodbye, there was love, so much love.
And that basically summed up Marjorie's relationship with her daughter. In The short time they shared together, they made memories that would last a lifetime and formed an unbreakable bond, until it was time to say goodbye. Maybe it was for the best, only time would tell.
_______________
That same night, Marjorie didn't get a wink of sleep. She spent hours replaying voice notes on her phone that Ivy had sent her in the past.
She didn't want to forget what Ivy's voice sounded like.
She stared at pictures of them, she knew deep down that she needed to let go, she just wasn't ready. All she could do was cry.
Marjorie was awake, sobbing and whimpering until early hours of the morning, she stared at the ceiling until she noticed the sun begin to rise and birds beginning to chirp. She had actually stayed awake all night.
Reece sat up.
"Marjorie." He began.
"Yeah?" She said tiredly, bags had formed under her eyes.
"Have you been to sleep gorgeous?" He asked.
"Uh- no." She stuttered.
"You need the rest gorgeous, it's not healthy." He complained. "Stop worrying about Ivy, we spoke for hours yesterday." He added.
"I know- I still have feelings for her Reece, even though she said what she said, no matter how many times I tell myself I'm better off without her, part of me just won't let go." She said as she felt tears roll down her cheeks.
"Understandable." Reece nodded. "You sure you want to come to work?" He asked.
"Yes- yes, anything, I need a distraction." She snapped.
"Alright." Reece smiled.
Marjorie didn't feel like wearing colour, she stuck to black, all black heels, black trousers and a black blouse. She wouldn't eat breakfast either. Her pain was no longer hurting her mentally, she felt sick to her stomach, she physically couldn't eat.
