Mourning. A way of showing grief and sorrow following the death of someone you care about. For some, mourning helps you heal and move forward. And for others, they never leave the mourning period. Forever stuck in their grief and sorrow. But for the Salvatore school, that wasn't the case. Even though Ethan sacrificed his life to stop Ken, they knew he wouldn't want them to stay stuck in their grief. He would want everyone to move forward. So here everyone was, outside the front of the school building, holding a memorial for Ethan.

Lizzie and MG were hugging each other, both seeking comfort during this time. By Ethan's memorial portrait, Aaron blew out a match after lighting candles as Hope placed a rose down by the portrait. Behind the portrait, Cleo and Kaleb were hugging each other closely, comforting each other and enjoying being together once again. Alaric walked outside, looking out at all the students stood outside. Something swam in his eyes before walking back inside. Aaron waved his hands over the candles, protecting the flames from being blown out when MG approached him.

"Hey." He greeted. Aaron smiled lightly in response. "Have you, uh... have you..." MG muttered, struggling to speak. Aaron knew what he was trying to ask. "No. My best guess is that he's in Limbo with Landon." Aaron said. MG nodded. He was a little disappointed Ethan couldn't pass straight over but he knew Landon would help him. "You know, on Día de los Muertos, people light candles by those they're trying to remember and help cross over. They act as a beacon of light, faith and hope that illuminates the path and guides spirits safely." Aaron told MG.

"Yeah?" The vampire asked. Aaron nodded. "The flame acts as a welcoming beacon so visiting souls don't get lost on their way back to the spirit world. And placing four candles by an altar or memorial helps the spirit find their bearings as the four candles are to represent the four directions of a compass. North, South, East and West." Aaron explained. MG nodded before pointing at the candles. "What about the colours?" He asked. "They're just for fun." Aaron said jokingly, cracking a small smile. MG chuckled lightly.

"The colours represent different things. The white one represents purity, hope and the light of faith. The purple one represents mourning, grief and pain. The pink one represents the celebration of life and the blue one represents the symbolic river of death. Figured they seemed the most appropriate. I thought if I can't help Ethan pass over myself, I could at least help any other way I can so he can find peace." Aaron told MG, who smiled in gratitude, hugging Aaron. "Thanks, man." The vampire muttered. "It's what friends are for." Aaron said.
