0002. | A FAILED EXPEDITION WHEN WIND AND WATER HIT
Percy was having the best day ever which felt a little wrong considering it was his mom's wedding day, and he wasn't the bride.
It was a relatively small affair. His mom had gone for the full bells and whistles, wearing a pretty light blue dress because she figured having her son at the wedding let the cat out of the bag. Her hair was pinned up in some intricate braids that her friend from work had done for her with a veil clipped in somehow. Originally, his mom hadn't wanted to make a fuss of the wedding and was happy to go down to City Hall. Paul had been the one to encourage to have the day for them both. Now, they were in the aftermath of what was a pretty nice ceremony in a community garden on Greenwich Avenue, off Sixth. Percy wasn't a particularly soppy person, but even he had to admit, his mom looked beautiful.
But what was making it the best day ever had something to do with the mix of how his mom was cheesing like a kid on Christmas, his new step-dad was blushing whenever he looked at his bride, and Percy got to spend the day with the most beautiful girl in the world on his arm.
Octavia was looking like a million golden drachma. She was wearing a dress she said she borrowed from Drew, navy blue to match his suit. It was the same one she wore to his birthday party which embarrassed her a little but he didn't see the problem, he just liked her in blue. She looked incredible and he knew she felt pretty wearing it. Her hair was down, braided in little pieces away from her face and her skin looked amazing, which was a pretty creepy thing to think, admittedly, but it did. She was golden and pearlescent, shimmering in a really beautiful way that was shamefully distracting him a lot and what was the bane of Grover's existence.
His mom said he could have two friends there with him for company because the rest of the party was everyone she and Paul knew. Besides, their side of the aisle was always going to be sparse considering what little family they had. Percy had chosen Annabeth and Grover to accompany him because he knew Octavia had her own invitation.
He had considered asking Rachel if she wanted to come. He had spend the past six months hanging out with her more and more often since she earned his eternal respect for nailing Kronos in the face with a blue plastic hairbrush. Rachel was a great excuse for escaping the expectations of his life at Camp, and she already knew about his situation so the occasional monster attacking him didn't need to be explained. The only problem was that Rachel and Octavia didn't get on that well (for a reason he couldn't understand and hadn't been told), and though they played nice for his sake, he could do without the tension at his mom's wedding.
So far, Grover had spent the day retying his shoelaces over his fake feet and muffling his groans and eye rolls any time that he spotted Octavia coming near him. Apparently Percy's heart had been racing all day at the sight of her, let alone when she would sneak him a kiss.
