Third persons pov
On a starless night filled with the pitter pattering of the falling rain, the drops fall on an old brick building, which stands tall and full of the heritage from it's past owners. A single Sister a grey fox, clad in her holy ash coloured uniform and white hood walks down one of the wooden floored corridors, a silver cross hanging from her neck giving a small chime with every step. She reaches a door halfway down the hall but as she reaches for the stained golden door knob her hand drops to her side as she looks out of one of the open windows two steps down the hall from her.
She steps up to the frame of the window and places her hand on the cold glass. For a couple of seconds she stands her eyes following the paths of the many droplets but then she sees her own reflection, her wrinkles visible clearly showing her age. But she does not feel sad as she has been like this for many years. Her gaze then turns to the sky filled with black grey clouds and her heart gives a nervous beat.
"The full moon has been blocked out tonight, I will have to take extra care to protect the children." she said quietly to herself.
She then pulls down a blind over the window before turning back to the door and entering the room. The scene before her is heart warming as she sees many small girls either jumping on beds, brushing there hair, or walking around with there night gowns only semi over their heads. The room contained rows of simple beds each with a different coloured blanket and several windows. In case you hadn't already gathered this large, old building acted as home to many children. Every night the sister put these girls to bed first as they were the youngest at only five years old.
"Come on girls! It's time for bed!" the sister kindly said clapping her hands.
"Ohhhhh..."
"Do we have to?"
"But I'm not tired!" the young children protested.
"Come on girls, you all need your beauty sleep." the sister said chuckling.
She then helped one or two girls put on there night gowns properly and tucked them all into bed. But when she turned towards the bed covered in a (F/C) blanket she saw no little girl waiting.
"Where is (Y/N)?" the sister asked the other girls.
All of the girls who weren't already asleep all instantly pointed to the window across the room. Following the girls directions the sister wasn't surprised at tall to see a small (F/C) (A/T), the newest girl to the orphanage, sitting at the window, legs to her chest, her (H/L) (H/C) hair covering her eyes slightly. The sister walked over to the child and bent down to her height giving a warm smile.
"(Y/N) sweetie it's time for you to go to bed." she said sweetly.
"There's no moon tonight." (Y/N) said in a small voice still looking out of the window.
"Yes there is sweetie, it's just hidden by the clouds." the sister said trying to reassure the unsure child.
"But mummy and daddy said that the moon would keep me safe." (Y/N) said, eyes watering as she remembered her parents who she had lost only a month ago.
"Just because you can't see something doesn't mean it's not there, the moon will always be there to protect you child." the sister said her voice being nothing but pure truth and showing the wisdom of her old age.
(Y/N) remained silent as the sister picked her up and held her in a tight warm embrace before placing her in her bed.
"Now girls have you all got your crosses on?" the sister asked looking up from (Y/N) and at all the other girls.
All of the girls lifted up there non-dominant hand showing a necklace which was a simple chain with a plain silver cross wrapped around there wrists as a bracelet. The sister had forbade the young girls to wear their necklaces, which would usually been worn during the day, at night due to the fear that they would accidently choke themselves. Nether the less she checked that each of the crosses were securely on each tiny wrist before giving each child a kiss and leaving the room turning off the light.
The sister closed the door quietly and leant on the door a couple of seconds giving a contented sigh before she went to send the other children to sleep. You may ask, why make a girl the age of five wear a silver cross both day and night? Well the answer is simple.
Vampires.
The orphanage was filled with so many young, venerable children that it was a likely target for vampires who prefer to feast on children's blood. You see just like any other species you had the good and the bad. The good vampires would only drink small amounts from people, barely doing an damage apart from a small cut. But then there were the bad ones who would go far as to feasting on the young blood of children.
So the orphanage dedicated itself to teaching each and every child to develop good habits of wearing a silver cross and knowing that the nights when there is no moon are the most dangerous, but when the moon is full and visible then you are mostly safe. So as the sister went to tend to the other children the young (A/T) clutched he cross tightly to her chest as she tried to fall into a slumber, but her thoughts were plagued by memories of her parents.
However by the time the large town clock struck twelve times the world was silent and asleep. But as one world sleeps, another awakens.
The shadows cast in the night start to move with life as several figures walk out from the black cloak of concealment. Sinister looking silhouettes move in the night darting over the roof tops traveling at such speed. Soon they reach their desired location and the supposed leader places one foot on the edge of the roof they were standing on, resting his arm on his leg giving a smirk. He removes his black and red sun glasses from his eyes resting them on the top of his head looking at the large building below them.
"Well come on then boys, lets go say hello to the kiddies."
