After spending an extra hour at school for coursework catch up, I arrive home at 5 o’clock. Mum was already home, she didn’t seem herself she looked upset.

“Mum, what’s wrong?” I ask curious to know why she wasn’t herself.

“I didn’t think I’d be in this position again, but Caggs I’m pregnant” Mum replies, my jaw drops and I pull her into a hug.

“Mum, it’ll be ok. How did you even get pregnant?” I ask,

“I was seeing a colleague; it wasn’t serious so I didn’t want to involve you with him. It was just casual; I’m not too old for another child am I?” Mum replies,

“Of course not, you’re 36 Mum. You’re the youngest out of all of my friends; you can do everything you never got to do with me. Consider this your second chance” I say smiling,

“You really think so?” Mum replies

“Of course, mum I’ve told you before. It’s your company you could work from home, you’re doing well you don’t even need to go on maternity leave until birth. Unless of course you want to” I say,

“I’m glad I have you Caggie, I’ve brought you back some beautiful dresses and other things” Mum replies,

“You know you don’t need to keep buying me these things, concentrate on yourself. I have a lot of clothes and I can alter them” I say,

“You’re amazing, money doesn’t seem to faze you does it. I’m glad you’re not a spoilt brat” Mum replies,

I smile at her and she kisses my forehead, I grab the bags full of clothes mum had brought me and I take them into my room. I pull out the dresses and pick one out for both Rosie and Amber; I then pull out a beautiful long dress for myself. I hang everything else up and then put Rosie’s and Amber’s dress onto hangers, I was so proud of my mum at the moment and I was prepared to help her as much as I could. Which was why I had decided to earn a little money instead of having it handed on a plate, I wanted to work for my mum maybe just on the weekends and holidays when I had the time.

“Hey mum, I’ve had a brilliant idea that would help you a lot” I say,

“What’s the idea?” Mum replies,

“I was wondering if I could work for you, to earn money for myself. I don’t want to have it handed on a plate, I want to be able to put food on the table or buy my own car or rent a flat when I need to move out” I say,

“Really? Well you can take over things when I take my maternity leave; I don’t want to take away all your time to have fun” Mum replies,

“Ok if that’s what you think is best then I will wait” I say.

I leave mum’s bedroom and go back to my own room, and sit on my bed. I wasn’t sure if my mum was thinking straight when she was happy about her pregnancy, I wouldn’t mind a brother or sister but it would seem weird having being used to being alone for 16 years.

“Hey honey, I’m going out with a few friends. I’ll be back later” Mum says rushing off out of the house,

I never got a chance to reply, I was stuck in the house of my own. Luckily I had people on hand to help me, before I could even get the chance to call anyone. I open the door and Brad was leaning in the door way with a bunch of roses.
