I've been inconsolable for the past few days, and that has started to affect Avril as well. We've stopped going to the beach in the mornings and stopped going to the marina at night. We pretty much stopped leaving the house altogether. We've been on the couch, munching on chips and other processed foods all day long, up until we go to bed in complete silence.

I wake up late, which is unusual for me, and don't find Avril on her bed, which is unusual for her. I start walking down the stairs, and that's when I hear Avril's voice whispering:

"... and she's been depressed all day. This is really unusual for her." Silence. I take a peek from the top of the stairs and see her talking on the phone. "Urgh... I'd rather not tell you. I think she's the one that should tell you." She answers to the other part and waits for an answer, biting on her nails. "I'm just asking you to help me because I don't know what to do..." Avril sounds like she's about to cry. "Ok, I'll try. Thanks." She puts the phone away, and I go into the bathroom, pretending I've been there all along. Only after a couple minutes did I let myself out, going into the kitchen.

"Good morning, Avril." I say, popping up the fridge. When thoughts about making Avril sad haunt my mind, my chest tightens.

"Good morning, June." Avril is putting on a big fake smile. I know she's trying her best to keep up a happy act just for me. "I was thinking... We could stop by the marina today. We can get the waffles you like so much and we can stop by your boyfriend's workplace..." I force myself to smile.

"That sounds lovely." My eyes close when I smile. I'll go out today with her if that means she won't worry about me anymore.

"Really?" A hint of hope shines in her eyes.

"Yeah, why not?" I shrug, even though I really don't want to leave the house. I take out a yoghurt from the fridge and sit at the table to eat it. "It will be fun."

Avril does as promised and takes me to the waffle place (the waffle was delicious) and we shared a soft serve (which was also delicious) before heading up to Holt's bar
