"Mommy! Mommy!" An excited Jacob whispered, his little body knelt next to Kiera's sleeping form after he had successfully climbed onto his parent's bed in the early hours of the morning. "Mommy!"
"What're you doing up this early, little man?" Simon whispered through the dark bedroom - the sun not due to rise for another half hour.
"Mommy said we were leaving early this morning to go somewhere!"
"She did, but it's not time to go yet," Simon shook his head. "Excited to see what she has planned, yeah?"
"Yes!"
"Well, you should get some more sleep before the time comes. It's going to be a long day," He said, now sitting up in bed and reaching for the wool blanket that splayed over the foot of their bed. "How about to go back to sleep next to your mum?"
Jacob nodded, letting his father help him stand up and over Kiera's sleeping form before he settled between his parents, Simon giving his little boy full access to the wool blanket. "Snug as a bug, yeah?"
"In a rug!" Jacob giggled.
"Where's your sister?"
"In bed, sleeping still. She tooted and it stunk, so I had a reason to wake up."
Simon couldn't help but chuckle, "Unfortunately for you, she gets that from me."
"Ew, dad!" Jacob scrunched his nose.
"Don't lie, you do it too!" He raised his brows. "But you and I agree that your sister has the worst farts, so I don't blame you."
"They're so bad, dad," Jacob sighed, shaking his head. "Something died in her!"
"You're probably right. Go back to sleep, we have a long day ahead."
"Goodnight, dad."
Jacob was unaware that the acknowledgement of Simon being his father made him grin from ear to ear as he tried to fall back to sleep.

"Okay, I'm full from bite-bites. Can we go now??" Evie asked impatiently, sitting back in her chair  at the table, a piece of one of Kiera's homemade blueberry biscuits stuffed in one of her cheeks.
"You and your brother both are impatient this morning," Kiera giggled, taking a bite for herself before turning to give Stella a bite of her food as she sat in the highchair between Kiera and Simon. "We're leaving after we finish breakfast."
"Ugh!" Evie huffed, initially ignoring the warning glance from her father to calm down if she wanted to see what their surprise was, but Evie was quick to realize what her father's glance meant after she had turned her head to follow the subconscious feeling that she was being looked at. "Momma, I'm full."
Kiera arched her brow at Evie from across the table, "You've barely eaten your breakfast. Too excited?"
"Yes, because you won't tell me or brother what we're doing!"
"Well, that's the point of a surprise, yeah?" Simon intervened, he too arching his brow.
"Do you know what this surprise is, daddy?"
Simon and Kiera shared a glance, "No."
"Daddy, you're lying!" Evie giggled. "Tell me what it is!"
"You're not going to intimidate me, little lass," Simon chuckled at her, still chewing a little piece of his food. "You'll see what your surprise is soon, love."
"Fine. But my belly is full," Evie huffed. "Can I go ahead and put my boots on?"
"Not yet, honey," Kiera shook her head. "We'll be leaving soon, I promise."
