The next day at school, I felt everyone's eyes on me as I made my way through the crowded halls to my locker. Whispers stopped as I got close to groups, than started up again as I passed them. I sighed, rolling my eyes. "I can't believe people believed what Chloe said." I grumbled to myself as I spun the dial on my locker.
"Well maybe if you stopped acting so guilty, they'll realize Chloe's full of it."
I heard a voice next to me and looked over. It was Zach, a kid in my math class."I'am not acting guilty." I retaliated.
"Yeah. Yeah you are." He rolled his eyes at me, "The Lexi Cane everyone knows is always smiling and talking to people. She never got into drama, which is also throwing them off. If you stop slumping around the halls, avoiding eye contact and not talking to anyone, you might as well consider yourself a social outcast like me." I sighed at that. "Be yourself and everything will eventually stop."
I nodded, "thanks Zach." We shared slight smiles and parted ways. I rounded the corner to go to my first class and stopped short to see Chloe smirking at me. I sighed lightly and then kept walking, making sure to hold my head up high. As I drew nearer, Chloe and a bunch of others seemed to back off. Once I passed her with a shove, everyone crowded me like the first day back.
I smiled at things going back to normal so quickly. I really hoped they'd stay that way. And they did until lunch. I was sitting with Chace, Willa and Sarah and a bunch of others when someone plopped down beside me. I looked over to see Matt. I opened my mouth to speak when he cut me off by kissing me. My eyes stayed wide open the whole time and I pushed his chest.
I then heard a gasp.
Matt pulled away and we looked over to see Chloe staring at us. Then she yelled out.
"Matt! Your going behind my back with her?! Why would you do that to me?!?"Matt stood up from where he was sitting "Chloe, baby. She came onto me! I only sat down to ask her something when she kissed me!"
Now everyone was watching. Great.
"That is not true!" I stood as well, if they were going to make a scene I was sure going to tear it down. "You kissed me!"
Chloe looked around at everyone. "You see everybody?! Lexi isn't only a boyfriend stealer... She's a liar as well."
Then the talks broke out around the whole cafeteria. "Chloe, a word ." I growled pulling her from the cafeteria into the hall. "What the hell is your problem with me?!"
"You left me! You left me at that camp and you never came back! You said you were going to come-"
"I said I was going to TRY to come back... And I did."
"Not hard enough!" Chloe glared at me, "You obviously didn't try hard enough!"
"I'm sorry, okay? Are you really holding a grudge about what happened years ago! You need to let it go, because if you keep up with this, I can guarantee that you won't have much longer at this school without being picked on just like you were in that miserable camp before I came along." I was shocked at my own cold heartedness, but she had it coming to her...
Right?
She huffed, "We'll see Cane."
I watched as she stormed away down the hall. I shook my head , Chloe was a really good friend. We listened to each other, we talked together all the time, I was her only friend at that camp. I did her a favour and now i'm getting served my thanks over one mistake. Well, Chloe...
Game On.
