*9 years later*
I couldn't help but smile as we pulled into the driveway of our old victorian style house. It's been so long since we've left. The last owners of the house put it on the market before my sophomore year at High School ended and my my parents, who had gotten homesick apparently re-bought it.The house seems so small... I wonder if Chace still lives down the street. I stepped out of the car, pulling my backpack on and glanced where his house would be, opening my mouth to tell my parents I was going to go check, my mom pulled me inside. "I've forgotten how beautiful this house was." She cooed as we spun in a slow circle in the living room.
The movers soon pulled in after us and started filling the house with boxes. I smiled at the staircase. The house has two floors and an attic that I loved to go in. It was bigger back when I was 7 though. "I'm gonna go check out upstairs" I said to my mom, my voice echoing through the semi-empty house.
She nodded and I went up to the attic. It was still big; I smiled around then had an idea. It was the perfect size for a bedroom!
I ran back downstairs, "Mom! Can my room be in the attic? Please, please, please, please, please?" She opened her mouth to object, but I kept talking, "I'm old enough now, and besides. If my rooms in the attic, you finally get to have a guest bedroom for nana when she visits." My eyes begged her. "Pleaase."She finally caved and told the movers to put everything with my name on it in the attic. I smiled the biggest smile I could muster and threw my arms around my Mom in a hug. I kissed her cheek and she laughed. "Come on, I want to go see if Miss White still lives in that pink house. I could use a walk."she said walking outside. I dropped my bag on the floor after pulling my phone from it and slipping it in my pocket.
We crossed the street and walked down the sidewalk, finally stopping at the house, my mom smiled knocking on the door sure enough the now older miss white steps out, and smiles at my mom, with light squeals, they hug each other. "This can't be Lexi Cane! The little brown haired girl I used to watch for you're parents!"
I laughed slightly, nodding, "That's me." Just to clarify, My name is Alexis Anne Cane. So Lexi and Lex... Nicknames.
Miss White smiled and turned back to my mom. "Are you living back in you're old home, Sharon?" I tuned out their conversation, looking around and fiddling with the locket Chace gave me. The neighbourhood looks pretty much the same, then my gaze stopped at a house just across the street. Chace's house.~Chace's POV~
I heard a squeal from across the street. I stand from my desk and walk over to my window, thinking it was Miss White. Sure enough it was... But there was two other people. They looked really familiar. I looked at the older of the two. Mrs Cane. I felt my eyes grow wide as they moved from the maybe mrs cane to the brown haired girl around a year younger then me standing with them looking around.
I ran to my closet, and rummaged through it, pulling out the framed picture Alexis gave me before she left. Walking over to the window again I held up the picture so I could see it and the girl at the same time. I narrowed my eyes concentrating, then they widened immediately. I felt the picture slip from my hands and I quickly bent down to catch it.
I heard footsteps running up the stairs and my mom ran in through my open bedroom door, " The Canes's are back. Little lexi's grown so big." She gushed then ran back downstairs, with me right behind her. She started at a fast pace across the street, I followed slower.
As we got to them I heard her say something to Lexi, who just giggled lightly. I watched her face as my mom spoke, contemplating what to say to her. Once I got there, I finally settled on somehow breathing out. "Hi..."
She smiled up at me, "Hi." I felt as if my legs turned to jello but I hid it. I looked around at the adults talking, then back to her, "Do you... Wanna take a walk?" I rubbed the back of my neck nervously, smiling crookedly.
She looked back at everyone else as well the smiled brighter up at me, "Sure." I held my arm out and she locked arms with me as I lead the way. "So, you're moving back..." I forced myself to speak.
"Yeah, back into our old house." She looked up at me then back down, "you've grown, Chace."
"You to Lexi." I bumped her a little, causing her to laugh.Then she sighs lightly, "I'll never loose that nickname." She laughed slightly. I opened my mouth to speak, but just like she used to she read my mind and spoke up;
"Everyone in Florida called me Lex."
"Lex." I looked down at her, feeling my nose crinkle a little, "No, I can't call you Lex." She laughed the laugh that I missed so much. Just like before it was full of life, now it makes my heart melt.
"Yeah, I kinda figured everyone wouldn't adapt to it..." She smiled finally.
We walked in silence for a moment, then I turned to her. "We need to catch up. Say I come over later, and take you to the pizza place a few blocks over. We can go without parents this time."
She smiled slightly, looking down as we turned around. I can tell she was thinking about it. I bet myself it was about what her parents would say because I'm sure they still have a ton of unpacking to do. I opened my mouth to say that it didn't have to be today if she wanted to unpack some stuff, but finally she spoke up, "Sure. What time should I expect you?"
I could see our Mom's and Miss White come into view, "How does 7 sound?""7 sounds perfect." She nodded slightly to herself.
"Then it's a date." I felt the words slip off my tongue before I could stop them. She just smiled up at me as her mom started to end the conversation, "Pizza date on my first day back. I'm good."
I smirked at her usual humorous sarcasm. She hasn't changed a bit, and yet in a way she has. I watched as she walked away, talking with her Mom.
I felt my own Mom put her hand on my chin and shake my head slightly, "You've got a bit of drool on you're face." She smirked walking back to our house after saying 'bye' to Miss White. I rolled my eyes, laughing as I followed her. Then it struck me.
I just planned a date with my best friend.
