I felt my oxygen level quickly dropping. I gave a few last weak kicks to the attacker then gave up, accepting my fate that I was going to drown. Apparently, someone hadn't had the same acceptance. I saw a blurry face belonging to one of the guys appear in front of me, realizing their cheeks were puffed out I nodded quickly, suddenly hope was surging through me that I may live after all.
The guy quickly pressed his lips to mine as he passed more oxygen to me. He pulled away and I put my hand on his face in a thanks, then was quickly yanked back by the attacker. Bubbles escaped my mouth as I screamed a muffled, gurgly, under water scream. Damn it, I needed that air.
The boy swam to my feet and started going at the attacker. I felt the grip on my ankles go free and I quickly surfaced. I turned to see Kyle surfacing with an older guy, maybe in his early to mid 20's. I don't even know him! Why would he try to drown me?! Kyle was holding him by the back of his neck. Everyone else had gathered on the shore, I heard gasps as they saw us swimming to shore. They backed away as Kyle pulled the guy out of the water and threw him on the sand. The others quickly surrounded him. "Why'd you drag Lexi down!?" I heard Kyle yell.
"I-I-I.. I was paid, see... by the little brunette girl next door, see... It was an awful amount of money and I needed it for my family, see." the man was defiantly in his 20's. I could tell by the sound of his voice
"Brunette girl?" I heard Willa speak up beside me as she wrapped my towel around my shoulders. "Who lives next door, Amber?"
Everyone looked over at Amber, who was glaring at the house down the beach a ways. "Chloe." she growled. "Chloe lives there."
"And this some how doesn't surprise me." I sigh. "Just let him go, guys." I watched as the man frantically thanked me then ran off away from us. Everyone decided it was time to head back inside, after we packed up and everyone started making their way back to the house, I grabbed Kyle's arm and pulled him aside. "Thank you... for saving me." I whispered, looking up at him.
He smiled, "It was my job once, lifeguard here. Second nature I guess... and I couldn't let you drown" he tapped the tip of my nose lightly, "Your much to important." I felt my cheeks heat up in a blush and was immediately thankful that the sky was somewhat dark. I felt Kyle lightly put a hand on my arm and his lips touched my forehead. "come on," he breathed lightly as he wrapped a warm arm around me, leading us to the house, "Lets get inside."
I have to say, I'm slightly disappointed... I mean I guess I understand, Kyle trying to be responsible. After all he is 18. None the less he saved my life, and like any other hopeless romantic like me, I really wanted to kiss him. We walked in and he dropped his arm, smiling slightly at me he walked upstairs to his and Michael's shared room. I heard Willa's familiar squeal as she came out of hiding. "We're the only ones downstairs... spill" she whispered. "Did you kiss him??"
I shook my head, sighing sadly, "No. As much as I wanted to. It wouldn't have worked out anyway. He's 18 and i'm barely 16. Right now, it's totally frowned upon."
Willa laughed slightly, "Besides... you've got chaaaaceee." she loves to tease me about Chace.
I blushed profusely, hearing footsteps rush down the stairs, "Shut up," I hissed playfully, then turned to see none other then Chace walking up to us.
"Can I talk to you outside?" he asked me. I nodded and he led us to a tiny gazebo out back.
I leaned my back against the railing, listening to the water and facing him, "What's up?"
"Are you alright?" he was really worried.
I smiled warmly, "Peachy."
"I gotta admit, i'm kinda jealous of Kyle... why didn't I think of being a life guard?" he smirked and I reached out pushing him. "But, really... i'm glad your okay..." he whispered leaning against the rail next to me, looking out at the water. "Especially after what happened at the Halloween dance thing."
I shivered at the memory of Chloe up on that stage, trying to make me look like the bad guy. "Don't remind me," I laughed slightly, turning so I was looking out at the water too, our arms touching now. "I still shudder at the thought of Medusa on that stage."
"I thought she was Cinderella?" he smirked down at me.
"No, I definitely saw either Medusa, or the Wicked Witch of the West." I laughed.
"Well, you must see personalities. Paying someone to drown you is too far." he pursed his lips.
"I'll take care of it." I looked down at my hands, twiddling my thumbs.
"Your not violent. I've missed out on nine years but even I know your not violent. Otherwise you'd have socked her in the face by now...hey, a girl fight. That would be interesting."
I bumped him, "Exactly why I haven't done it yet. You'd enjoy it way too much."
We looked at each other and I felt a hand lightly rest on my waist. We started leaning in, and I could feel my heart beat faster every time we got closer. My eyes closed as our lips were just barely brushing each other. Then a light came on and we pushed away from each other quickly. Amber came out, "There you two are. You might not wanna stay out long, the bugs come out at night."
I exchanged a look with Chace, my lips pursed then we went inside and acted as if nothing almost happened. But Willa knew better, she was watching apparently. "Oh my gosh, Lexi!" she hissed pulling me into the kitchen, "First Chace, then Matt, then Kyle and now Chace and Kyle? Who are you gonna pick?"
"Well obviously not Matt," I smirked, and she rolled her eyes "But I don't know..." it's true. I really like them both... but I still don't know if i'm ready for love completely. I wish someone would just tell me who I end up with in the future so I can just go with it without all the drama.
