"Alexis?" I heard Chace speak up beside me. I was 7, he was 7 and a half ( he was seven months older then me) . Our parents had taken us downtown so they could go shopping in the older stores. I turned my head to look over at my best friend, Chace.
"When you leave after school, will you ever come back?"I looked down, then ahead of us at our parents, "I really want to.." Chace suddenly stopped us by hugging me. I pulled away from Chace and we fast walked up to our parents. "I will come back. Even if I have to wait until I'm old enough."
He looked over at me, "Thats a long time."
I looked over at him, locking eyes, "Promise me you won't find another best friend."
"Even if someone just like you moved down the street after you left, I won't replace you." he smiled at me, which I returned my own bright smile back.Chace took my hand as we continued walking.
We stopped to get a drink. Chace got sprite, I got pepsi. They were in big green bottles with long straws. We sat on the stairs that led up to this big building and drank our drinks, our parents sitting at a table in front of us. "Do you think we can still be best friends when you leave?" he looked over at me.
I took a sip of my drink, thinking how it would work, "We wouldn't be able to play together.""But my mom said we can video talk with eachother." Chace suggested and I nodded, "Sounds like a plan." I held out my hand to him, he took my hand and we shook hands. He squezzed my hand lightly, "Soul mates forever."
I smiled, "Soul mates forever....

When it came time for us to leave, Chace came running down the street. "Wait! Wait for me!" he called. I was about to get in the backseat when he called, I stopped, turning to him. I watched as he ran all the way up to me."We said goodbye last night..." I sniffled lightly
"I know, but I forgot these." he pulled a teddybear, and a locket from behind his back and gives them to me. "Just to remind you we are soul mates forever"
I smiled at his gifts, speechless. I put the teddybear in the car, the locket on a silver chain still in my hand."If you open it, there is us in it..." he smiled. I opened it and there were two pictures, The one on the left was me and on the right was him, we were both laughing. I looked up at Chace and gave him the biggest hug ever. I pulled away quickly, and reached into my backpack in the backseat. I pulled out a framed picture of us smiling and handed it to him, "I was going to keep it... but since you gave me the locket you can have it"
"Thanks..." he smiled, but it dissapeared. He wrapped me in a tight hug. "I'm gonna miss you, Lexi..." Chace whispered.
"I'm gonna miss you to." I whispered back."Come on dear, we have to go." my mom walked out of the house and pat Chace's head as she went to the passenger door. "I'll miss you, Chace." she smiled and got in the car. My dad walked by and smiled at Chace as well, getting into the drivers seat.
I looked at him, a handful of tears sliding down my face. "I'll talk to you over the video thing.."
He nodded, his eyes watery a little,"Yeah.... goodbye, soulmate."
I gave him one last hug, "Goodbye Best Friend." I slipped in the backseat and shut the door. I waved weekly out of the window, tears flowing freely down my face as we pulled away. Never coming back.
