I watched ad Chace walked in with this already popular new girl named "Lexi." I rolled my eyes at the sight of her, talking to MY boyfriend as if she would have a chance of getting him. "Oh my god, that's Lexi." I heard Amber, my best friend breath. "I knew her when we were kids, she's gorgeous now." I heard a ding as a light bulb appeared over my head, I looked at Amber "You said you knew her when you two were younger?"
Amber looked back at me, her blonde shoulder length hair whip around as she looked at me "Yeah why?" Turned my head to her "What's her last name?" She scrunched her nose up, thinking "Lexi... Lexi Cane." My eyes grew wide. I remembered Lexi Cane well.
"It was the last summer we'd ever spent together. Lexi and I were spending our last day at the summer camp we went to together by swimming in the lake all day. We dared each other to do stupid things like jump into the lake from the always empty life guard chair, but Lexi wasn't that into the whole day. "Are you okay, Lexi?"
She looked over at me "Chloe, I'm moving before the next summer camp. It's to far for me to come next time." She sniffled. I felt myself go into shock. Lexi was the only friend I had at the camp, without her I'd be alone and picked on all the time. "Can't you stay back and live with that Chace kid you always talk about?"
She shook her head "No."
"But Lexi, without you I'll be all alone." She sighed as we were called to come in for dinner and bed. "Can't you try to come next summer?"
She nodded as we walked out of the water and to the Mess hall in our towels. We'd missed food if we changed, learned that at the beginning of the summer. "I'll try."
I was satisfied for then, but I had an uneasy sleep the night before we left. The next morning we hugged goodbye and gave each other bracelets that we made out of tiny leather strips of different colours. "Friendship bracelets. Even though I'm going far away, you'll still be my friend." We hugged and went our separate ways.
The next summer she never cane back. That was my worst summer ever. After that I never went back to camp.
When my mom told me that we were moving to Fayetteville, North Carolina a few years later something struck. Lexi lived in Fayetteville. And with Lexi there was Chace, the guy she told me she liked soooo much. Barf. I happily moved to Fayetteville and did my research on this Chace character.
I quickly became Cheer captain in middle school, and of course MAJORLY flirted with Chace. He eventually asked me out Freshman year and we've been together ever since.
Now that "Lexi" is back, and obviously still likes Chace, this game is about to get good."
I walked over and introduced myself after showing off that Chace was mine. I watched as her facial expression went from friendly, to confused, then it filled to the brim with recognition. I smirked at her and mouthed "he's mine now." She looked down and went up to Mr.Harman, giving him her schedule he nodded and pointed out a seat between me and Opal. Oh this just gets better and better. We were told to sit and I rolled my eyes as Mr.Harman and the whole class gave Lexi a warm "welcome back."
She glanced over at me and I smirked, looking down at my desk and applying lip gloss. I could tell she was nervous. I knew she remembered what happened. I knew she liked Chace just as much, if not more, then she did when we were kids. Well Little-Miss-Perfect, let the games begin.
