Our roadtrip across America began at four in the morning today. You had rented this car that we could take all the way to New York. We were both exhausted as we spent the night planning and packing, although our excitement is what kept us going. Tons of cups of coffee too.
We put all our bags at the back of the car and got in our seats. It was still dark out, hardly anyone or any car in the streets. I turned around and checked if we have everything we need at the backseat- our food, blankets and pillows, extra clothes, gadgets, and the like.
"All good?" You asked turning to look at me.
I smiled at you and nodded my head, "We're good!"
"You ready?" You then smirked
"Let's do it!" I cheered.
We both seemed pretty chipper at four in the morning, but we were excited. It would take us about four hours to get to Nevada, the next state. For the entirety of the trip, we agreed on taking turns driving. You're taking the wheel first.
-----
We were an hour and a half in our journey and you've already eaten all the chips, but you promised to buy us some more.
At the start, we were both still very hyper and singing at the top of our lungs to our favorite songs from when we were in high school. The tiredness started to kick in soon after that.
Now, we're just both sitting there in comfortable silence waiting as the sun rises. The windows were down, the wind running through our hair. You have your hand on the wheel and the other one was on the window, tapping along to the music.
There was something about the way you looked against the morning sky, wind brushing through your hair, that made you look so beautiful. Looking at you now was like looking at my entire world- everything was laid out right in front of me.
I don't know if you've ever experienced this, but have you ever looked at the person you love and felt ever part of you come alive? Your heart starts beating faster, your tummy turns, and you feel like your heart is going to burst. It's this overwhelming feeling and you can't put it to words. All you know is that you love that person.
But I'm not supposed to love you. Well, atleast that's what they say.
Is it bad that I wish they were wrong? I mean, it makes more sense. Falling in love with your best friend? Falling for someone who knows you like the back of his hand, someone who treats you right and defends you from anyone who tries to hurt you, someone who loves you despite your flaws and all the fucked up things you've done- that's who you're supposed to be with right? That's who you're supposed to be in love with?
Ever since we were younger, that's what you and I believed in. That's how we saw love.
I saw it in you, but you saw it in someone else.
I guess, this is just the price I have to pay for being in love with my best friend.

We spent the entire day in Las Vegas. We went down the strip, went to Lake Tahoe, and the Red Rock Canyon.
When you think of Nevada, what normally pops into your mind is Las Vegas, casinos, the most beautiful hotels, and just the craziest parties. Lake Tahoe and Red Rock Canyon proved that stereotype wrong.
Driving through Red Rock Canyon was just breathtaking. The rock formations and how it looked against the bright sky. The pictures don't do it justice. We were taken away by it all.
We stopped by lake Tahoe for lunch, which was just as beautiful. We nearly stayed the night, but that would delay everything else we had planned.
It's now eight in the evening. We have just bought take our burgers and fries for dinner as we head to the next state: Colorado.
