The past two days have been quite... different. By different, I mean, this doesn't usually happen kind of different.
We've known each other for so many years and just like normal best friends, we argue and we fight. When we were younger, we would argue over stupid things constantly. We would yell at each other from across the room. Although, we never cursed at each other or hurt each other. We just full on yelled at each other.
After arguments, we don't usually talk for hours, but there was this one fight we had that lasted for weeks. Do you remember this?
It was because I was dating Ryan. Ryan and I went out for two months and one of those months, we did not speak to each other at all. To say you disapproved of him would be an understatement. You hated him. You hated him even more when I went out with him.
I went over to your house to hang out and do our homework together. Somewhere in the middle of that, you started to talk to me about Ryan. You kept going on and on about how he was a douchebag and how he would just end up breaking my heart. It wasn't the first time you nagged about him, this was the billionth time you did. And, I guess, I had enough of it and I started fighting back.
Truth be told, I agreed to go out with Ryan because I thought he would be the one that will get me over you, but he wasn't. But I did have feelings for Ryan. A part of me did, atleast.
You were right though he is a douchebag. He dumped me because he said he got bored of me and wanted to go out with this other girl. I remember sitting in my room and hating on myself because I felt stupid. I couldn't believe I went out with a guy like him and had some sort of feeling for him.
In the midst of my that, there was a knock on my door. I opened the door and there you stood. You smiled sadly at me and said, "I heard."
I just stared at you— embarrassed and hurt.
"Can I come in?" You asked softly. You held up a plastic bag and said, "I brought ice cream. I didn't know what flavor you were craving for, so I got everything."
I smiled at you and opened the door to let you in. We spent the whole evening eating tubs after tubs of ice cream and watching videos on the Internet. You didn't bring him up and you didn't rub that you were right to my face. You just let it die then and there, which I appreciated.
In the past years, we haven't argued or fought at all. The past two days, however, were, like I said, different.
You and I had planned to go to central park for a picnic and plan our European trip. We packed our lunch, brought our maps, and you brought your laptop and we headed to the park, taking our place on the grass.
It was a beautiful day. There was no sun, but the sky has never been more blue. We spent a good few hours planning our route and choosing the places we wanted to see. Everything was going well until...
Until you got hungry. You got hungry and ran off to buy a hotdog somewhere. You were gone for thirty minutes. And when you came back, a girl was with you. What made it worse? She was beautiful. Beautiful. She's the type of girl you can't stop staring at because of just how beautiful she is.
"Peyton!" You said.
I forced a smile. "Oh, so that's what took you forever."
"Sorry." You smiled sheepishly, "This is Coleen. I met her while I was getting my hotdog."
She smiled at me, "Nice to meet you, Peyton!"
"You too." I said. I didn't mean it though.
"Hey, P, is it alright if I go grab a coffee with Coleen?" You looked at me hoping that it wouldn't upset me, but it did. Of course, it did. Then again, who was I to say that? I am just your best friend. I shrugged, "No, it's fine. I'm pretty tired anyway. I think I'll just drive back to the apartment or something."
