fluffy sickfic

Chan opens his eyes to a dimly lit room, with a sound machine playing gently in the background.

He flinches at the unexpected coldness as someone drapes a wet cloth over his forehead.

"Shh, it's okay, Channie. Your fever is almost gone now."

Chan blinks blearily, trying to bring his surroundings into focus.

The person next to him laughs, a quiet, soothing tone.

"Are you still tired, Chan-ah?"

He forces himself to shake his head, although in reality, he wants nothing more than to burrow under the blankets and drift off to sleep again.

But, sick or not, his body probably won't let him.

Someone next to him sighs.

"Channie, you can't keep doing this."

"...dunno what you mean."

His voice is a low mumble, still raspy and hoarse, grating on his vocal cords harshly.

BamBam leans down until he is right above Chan's face, and when he speaks, it is slow, as if he is trying to enunciate every word, the way people do when they are talking to someone who is slow or hard of hearing.

"You can't work yourself to exhaustion repeatedly- it's destroying your health and immune system. Every time I see you anymore you look dead on your feet. You have to find time to rest- and not just when you're sick. It's only going to hurt you more in the long run."

Chan closes his eyes, not wanting to participate in this conversation. Unfortunately for him, Jung Kook has opinions of his own as well.

"BamBam's right, Channie. You never go out with us anymore, you always are working, and if we can see how it's destroying you, then so can the members of your group. It's probably not the same, but I know that Jin-hyung always used to complain when Nam Joon hyung and Yoon Gi hyung  and Hobi hyung would stay at the studio for days on end. You don't have to take most of the work on yourself- you have the others for that. Besides, people can always write more songs, but no one can create another Chan."

Chan can't find anything to say to that. They're right, after all.

He knows all of this, whispers it to himself at night, writes it down in his journal in an attempt to quell his thoughts. Of course he knows all of this.

He's just never been good at listening.

"Guys, maybe the scolding can wait. He's still sick, and you still have the whole week to address his working habits."

Chan has never been more thankful for Dongmin in his life.

To his eternal gratefulness, the other two seem to actually listen to Dongmin, and instantly apologise.

Jung Kook goes on to say something else, but Chan is already nodding off to sleep, oblivious to everything around him.

When he wakes up again, it is silent, the sound machine turned off.
