Eda POV

Eda stared down at the adoption papers in her hands. 

It had been a complicated process, but finally after a week of police inspections and Luz pleading Eda's case, she had been given the right to adopt Hunter. 

She still didn't know how she had passed the police inspection (barely passed but that didn't matter). She knew that the police knew Luz was Hunter's friend and that if anything went wrong she wouldn't hesitate to report Eda, not that she would need to. 

Eda would never hurt Hunter. 

As she signed the papers she thought back to how this had all began, with Luz barging into her room in the middle of the night crying. 

"Eda?" 

Eda groaned and sat up in her bed, clicking her bedside table lamp on. The room was illuminated with soft warm light and Eda glanced up at Luz, who was standing over her bed in tears. 

Her motherly instinct kicked in immediately and she pulled her daughter into a hug. 

"What's going on Luz?" 

Luz sniffled and dug her face into Eda's shoulder. 

"It's Hunter... Willow c-called and said- well- I can't explain it-its so terrible," Luz explained, her voice muffled by Eda's shirt. 

As soon as Hunter's name was mentioned, Eda remember the conversation she'd had with Luz about a month ago. The conversation about how Hunter was possibly being abused. 

"Is this about his Uncle?" 

Ok, that just made it worse. 

Luz began clinging to Eda for dear life and all she could do was hug her, rub her back softly, and whisper words of reassurance. 

"Luz... I can't help you or Hunter unless I know whats going on," Eda explained in a soft tone, hoping she could gently get Luz to tell her. Thankfully Luz nodded and began to explain everything in a broken voice. 

As Luz explained, Eda felt a stone of dread settle in her stomach. 

It was terrible. 

She couldn't imagine such a thing could happen to a child. 
But of course such things could happen. 

It had happened to Luz at her old school. 

And now it had happened to one of her closest friends.
