A restless night

It had been a busy few day, decorating the Christmas tree , playing in the snow and enjoying early December. The family had planned a quiet evening. Tim walked into the room and noticed Liv sitting on the sofa, her little face lighting up when she saw him. Without missing a beat, she looked up at him with her big, pleading eyes. "Dada, can I have a snuggle?" she asked, her voice full of sweetness.

Tim couldn't resist. With a soft smile, he lifted her onto his lap, settling her comfortably as she snuggled into him. "Of course, sweetheart," he said, holding her close.

Liv snuggled in for a moment before looking up at him again, her voice a little more excited this time. "Dada, can you do the back tickles?" she asked with a mischievous grin.

Tim chuckled softly and glanced over at Lucy, who was watching them with an amused look. Lucy rolled her eyes playfully. "She's got you wrapped around her little finger, huh?" she said, her tone lighthearted.

Tim shrugged with a grin, looking back down at Liv, who was already wiggling in anticipation. "She calls me dada. What am I supposed to do?" he replied with a laugh.

Liv beamed up at him, clearly pleased with how well she knew just how to get what she wanted. Tim shook his head affectionately, then began gently tickling her back, making her giggle uncontrollably. Lucy watched the scene with a soft smile, feeling the warmth of their little family moment.

Liv, now comfortable and fully relaxed, lay down on Tim's chest, her small body curling up as he continued to gently scratch her back. Her eyes fluttered shut, and a peaceful, contented smile spread across her face. The rhythmic motion of Tim's fingers had already begun to lull her to sleep, her breathing slow and steady.

Lucy watched the scene, a fond smile tugging at her lips as she saw how easily Tim calmed their daughter. She couldn't help but love these quiet moments, even though they were often interrupted by the inevitable chaos of family life.

After a few moments of silence, Lucy spoke up softly, her tone playful. "Oh, by the way, Liv wants to sleep with us tonight," she said, knowing exactly how that would be received.

Tim's response was almost immediate, a groan escaping his lips as he glanced at Lucy. "Oh, God, no," he whispered, though there was a touch of humor in his voice. "She kicks and wriggles all night. Come on, Lu, you know this—we're not gonna get any sleep now."

Lucy couldn't help but laugh softly at his reaction. "I know, but she looks so peaceful right now, and you're the one who always says we can't say no to her," she teased, her eyes sparkling with amusement.

Tim sighed, but there was no real frustration in it. "I guess we're in for a rough night then," he muttered, but his voice softened when he looked down at Liv, her small frame nestled against him, already drifting off to sleep.

"I'll take her to bed in a little while," Lucy added, giving Tim an affectionate look as she leaned back into the couch.

Tim shook his head with a smile. "Guess we'll have to make room," he said, knowing all too well that Liv's tiny feet and wiggling body were about to take up all the space in their bed.

Lucy stifled a yawn, her tired eyes struggling to stay open as she looked at Tim. It had been another long day, and now, after a night full of family moments, she was ready for some rest. She glanced down at Liv, who was already starting to nod off in Tim's lap. The soft, rhythmic rise and fall of her daughter's breath made her smile, but it also reminded her that the night wasn't quite over yet.

"I'm going to go to bed," Lucy said quietly, her voice soft but filled with affection as she gently stood up. She stretched, feeling the weight of the day settle in her bones. "I'll take her up to bed now."
