Lucy stepped into the bathroom, her footsteps soft against the floor. She had been looking for Tim, worried after seeing him retreat into himself after the beach. But when she saw him sitting there, his back against the cool tiles, his phone in his hand, a wave of apprehension washed over her.

He didn't notice her at first, his focus fixed on the phone screen in front of him. His expression was unreadable, but there was something about the way he was holding himself—tense, almost rigid—that made her heart ache. The phone was open to Josh Carter's Facebook page, and Tim's eyes were fixed on a picture of Josh's young children, smiling brightly in their innocence, frozen in time.

Lucy felt a cold knot in her stomach as she took a tentative step closer. She didn't need to see the rest of the page to understand what was happening. She could see the weight of the grief Tim was carrying, even without the words he hadn't yet said.

"Tim?" she asked softly, her voice barely above a whisper.

Tim flinched slightly, as if startled, before slowly lowering the phone from his face. He didn't meet her gaze, his eyes dropping to his lap instead. For a long moment, there was only silence between them, thick with unspoken words.

"I was going to call her," Tim said, his voice rough and strained. "Josh's wife... I was going to apologize. For not noticing. For not doing something. I should've known he was struggling, Lucy. I should've—" His voice broke, and he rubbed his face in frustration, as if trying to scrub away the guilt that clung to him.

Lucy felt her heart shatter at the raw emotion in his voice. She walked over to him, kneeling beside him on the floor. The sight of him so broken, so lost in his own guilt, made her chest ache.

"You couldn't have known," she whispered, placing a hand on his arm gently. "You couldn't have known, Tim. You did everything you could. You can't carry this alone."

Tim shook his head, his hands trembling slightly as he gripped the phone tightly. "I should've seen it, Lucy. I should've known something was wrong. We were so close. I should've done something. And now... now his kids won't have a dad. His wife is left with this emptiness, and I couldn't even—" His words trailed off, a sob catching in his throat.

Lucy's heart ached for him, for the weight of the guilt he was carrying, the sense of responsibility that had wrapped itself around him like chains. She reached for the phone in his hand, gently pulling it away from his grip, and set it down beside him.

"Tim," she said softly, her voice filled with both compassion and quiet strength. "You are not responsible for what happened. You did not fail him. He made his choice, Tim. It wasn't your fault."

Tim didn't look up at her, his eyes still fixed on the space in front of him, the torment evident in his posture. He was a man consumed by guilt, unable to forgive himself for something beyond his control.

Lucy took a deep breath and moved closer, wrapping her arms around him. She held him tightly, letting him lean into her, letting him feel her warmth, her presence.

"I'm here, Tim," she whispered. "I'm right here. And you are not alone in this. We are going to get through this together."

Tim's shoulders shook as the weight of his emotions broke through, and for a moment, it felt like everything came crashing down on them both. The pain. The guilt. The loss.

Lucy didn't say anything more. She just held him, letting him cry. Letting him release the grief that had been building inside of him. She knew that sometimes, words couldn't fix the pain. But her presence, her steady embrace, would help him find his way back.

She wasn't going to let him carry this alone. Not now. Not ever.

Tim's heart pounded in his chest as he heard the faint sound of little feet climbing the stairs. He panicked, his breath quickening as the realization hit him—Liv was coming up. He couldn't let her see him like this, so lost, so raw, especially after everything that had happened. He hadn't even fully processed the grief, and now the guilt was swallowing him whole.
