Late afternoon sunlight filtered through the living room windows, bathing the space in a warm, golden glow. Lucy sat on the couch, Harry nestled peacefully in her arms, dozing after a long feeding session. She was grateful for this small moment of calm, her tired eyes occasionally drifting shut, when suddenly, her phone buzzed on the coffee table. Startled, she reached for it and saw that both Angela and Nyla were on a group call.

"Hey, Lu!" Angela's voice rang out the moment Lucy picked up, brimming with an eager energy. "We miss you! And we were thinking... how about a girls' night?"

Nyla's laugh chimed in. "Yes, Lucy. We've been talking about it all day. You could really use a break, and we need our friend back out in the world, if only for a few hours."

Lucy blinked, her tired mind scrambling to catch up. She shifted Harry carefully, making sure not to wake him. "A girls' night?" she echoed, a hint of wistfulness in her tone. She couldn't remember the last time she had gone out without the kids in tow. Between Harry's teething, Liv's preschool schedule, and the sleepless nights, her own social life felt like a distant memory.

"You have to say yes," Angela said firmly, her voice gentle but insistent. "You're running on fumes, Lucy. Come on, we'll keep it low-key—just a little dinner, maybe a coffee afterward."

Nyla added, "And Tim's perfectly capable of handling things for a few hours, right? We know you'll worry, but trust us, everything will be fine. You deserve a break, Lu."

Lucy glanced down at Harry, who let out a soft sigh but remained asleep. A swirl of emotions rose in her—part excitement at the thought of a night off, part guilt at leaving her family, and part sheer exhaustion that made her wonder if she had the energy at all. She chewed her lip, considering it.

Tim, who had been listening from the kitchen doorway, stepped closer. "Go," he mouthed silently, offering her an encouraging nod and a small smile. He motioned to Harry's snoozing form, as if to say, We'll be okay.

Lucy took a breath, feeling the weight of her tiredness but also the pull of normalcy that had been missing for so long. "I... guess I can," she managed, a hesitant smile creeping onto her face. "If Tim's sure he can handle the kids for the evening."

"Yes!" Angela squealed. "We'll text you the details. We're so excited to see you!"

Nyla chimed in, "We promise it'll be nothing fancy—just good food, maybe some laughs, and a few hours to remind you that you're more than just Mum."

Lucy let out a quiet laugh herself, warmth spreading through her chest at her friends' enthusiasm. "Alright, I'll do it," she said, a small flicker of anticipation sparking in her tired eyes. "Just... be patient with me if I keep checking in on them."

Angela and Nyla laughed gently on the other end, understanding. "Of course, Lucy. We'll see you soon," Angela said, her voice practically glowing with excitement.

They hung up, and Lucy sat there, her phone in hand, adrenaline battling her fatigue. Tim walked over, placed a hand on her shoulder, and kissed the top of her head. "I'm proud of you," he murmured, watching as Harry shifted in her arms, still asleep. "You deserve this night out."

Lucy looked at her son, then at Tim, feeling a cocktail of nerves and relief. "I guess I'll need to find some clothes that aren't covered in baby spit-up," she joked, her voice shaking with a mixture of apprehension and newfound excitement.

Tim laughed softly. "Don't worry—I'll make sure everything's fine here. You just get ready and enjoy yourself. We'll hold down the fort. Mums been wanting to look after the kids overnight. It might be perfect timing."

Lucy nodded, her heart lighter than it had felt in days. As she glanced at Harry's peaceful face, she couldn't help but smile. For a few hours, she'd leave the chaos of motherhood behind—knowing that, with Tim's steady presence and her friends' support, she could finally catch her breath and remember how it felt to be simply Lucy again.
