"An adoption certificate?" Liz said, her mouth open in disbelief. She looked at me in disbelief and I smiled softly.

"I already signed it." I replied. "Your signature is the only one that's missing. Then you'll officially be my daughter."

"Are you- you don't have to do this, Taylor. Not for me." She stuttered out, clearly nervous and in shock and my eyebrows furrowed. "Well, who else would I do it for?" I asked, jokingly.

"I don't know." She replied. "Someone who's not as much of a mess."

"Hey, you're not a mess." I replied, laying a hand on her shoulder. "You're just a kid, even if you didn't have the chance in the past to be one. But now you can have that chance."

She stared down at the paper, like she was trying to process everything. Then her head turned to look at me slowly for a few seconds before she jumped out of her chair and threw her arms around me.

"Thank you so much." She mumbled with her head buried in my neck.

"Of course, sweetie." I replied, rubbing a hand over her back.

I heard a little sniffle before she pulled back to look me in the eyes. "What- what about Travis?" She asked.

"What about him?" I replied, tilting my head.

"Is he technically my dad now?"

I shook my head. "He's not. You really didn't know him as much as I'd like you to first and, though I love him very much and I hope and pray that we stay together forever, we aren't married so it makes things really complicated if something were to happen. But maybe in the future!"

She nodded in understanding. "Okay, does he know about this?"

I nodded. "Yep. And he's very happy for both of us. He just wanted to stay in the living room so he could give us some space. So, you ready to sign that paper?"

She nodded and sat back down at the table, grabbing the pen next to the paper. Clicking it, she signed her name in cursive and then set the pen back down, turning to me. "It's official?"

"It's official!" I exclaimed and she smiled happily, hopping back up to give me another hug.

We hugged for a few seconds before she started talking again. "Uhm, Tay?"

"What's up?" I asked.

"I know that you are technically my mom now, but for now, I don't think I'm ready to call you mom quite yet. If that's okay?"

"Hey," I replied, moving a strand of hair out of her face. "You can call me that whoever you're ready, and if you never are, you don't have to call me that. It'll be on your terms, okay?"

"Okay." She replied.

I smiled at her again and gave her a quick peck on the forehead. "So, I was thinking later we could order a bunch of food and watch Gilmore Girls or something while we eat? Have you ever seen Gilmore Girls?"

She shook her head and I gasped. "Oh, it's so good! I'm making Travis watch every episode with me 'cause he hasn't seen it either."

She nodded again. "Okay. Well, in around an hour I'm gonna get on a zoom call with a few other people from school that I got groomed together with so we can work on a science project that's due in two weeks. But after that, I'll be good."

"Alright, well let me know if you need anything." I replied and Liz agreed, walking off towards her room.

I turned around and headed into the living room, sitting down next to Travis who put an arm around my shoulders. "Hey, how was it?" He asked
