Y/N knew better than to protest or voice her pain. She stood before her mother, silently bearing the stinging cheek. The tension in the room thickened, as she waited her mother's next move or words.
Y/N's mother raised her voice, her tone with anger and disappointment, "You knew very well how important this meeting was!"
Acknowledging the familiar nature of the situation : 'You always say this', she thought, exhausted on how often her mother would say the same thing.
Her mother's voice rose even further, "Were you out playing?! Don't you know how your father worked so hard to arrange this meeting!?"
Y/N silently stood there, her thoughts consumed by the unspoken words within her. 'I never wanted this from the beginning', she thought to herself.
She suppressed the urge to speak out or defend herself. She knew that any attempt to explain herself would only lead to more punishment.
Y/N's mother studied her daughter intently, the indifference in Y/N's eyes only made her even more angry.
After a deep sigh of frustration, she warned Y/N sternly, "Don't be late next time."
Y/N's response was obedient and with no emotion, a simple "Yes, mother" escaping her lips.
"Go to your room." Her mother's sharp gesture and authoritative tone left no room for disobedience.
Y/N had no choice but to obey, silently nodding before making her way towards the stairs.
As she reached the stairs, she heard her mother's voice, loud and clear. She froze, her ears catching the words that slipped from her mother's mouth.
"It isn't even her problem..!" Her mother exclaimed in frustration, "She's just her aunt..."
Regret and shamelessness washed over Y/N, the realization that her aunt had covered her to protect her from her parents' again.
She quickly made her way up the stairs and entered her bedroom. Without hesitation, she locked the door, shutting herself off from the outside.
She let out a deep sigh, burying herself in the comforting embrace of her blanket. She held her phone, the screen illuminating her face in the semi-darkness of the room.
Without hesitation, she quickly dialed her aunt's number. She lifted the phone to her ear, waiting for her aunt to answer.
*ring..*
*ring...*
"Y/N..?"
As Y/N heard her aunt's voice, she could feel herself relaxing. Her aunt's voice sounded weary and groggy as if she had been abruptly woken up. But despite it, there was a sense of reassurance in hearing her voice.
"I'm sorry, did I wake you up..?" Y/N asked in a hushed tone, her voice slightly apologetic.
"No, no... You called just after I woke up..." Y/N's aunt said, attempting to sound nonchalant.
Y/N couldn't help but chuckle softly at her aunt's response. She knew her aunt well enough to recognize the lie hidden within her words.
"I can tell you're lying..." Y/N teased, her voice filled with a hint of fondness. She couldn't help but tease a bit more, adding, "You're still bad at lying, auntie..."
Y/N's aunt responded in mock offense, her voice tinged with a hint of amusement. "Oh, please, you're not any better yourself."
The soft laughter echoed through the line, their playful banter bringing a moment of lightheartedness amidst the heaviness of the situation.
