Esme was planning to kill her.
That was the only solution that Juliette could think of for why they'd been driving into the country for so long.
It was either murder or dumping her on the side of the road, and she was gonna be more pissed if it was the second one, because if they really didn't want her around they could've dropped her at Shelby's.
"Where are you taking me, by the way?" Juliette asked, feeling more uneasy with each moment that they got further into the countryside... Like yes, they were surrounded on most sides by corn fields, but she had never once in her life wanted to be surrounded by them to the point where she could see nothing else aside from the light from like one farmhouse.
Esme chuckled, shaking their head as they drummed their hands on the wheel, seeming excited.
"It's a surprise." They glanced over at her with a grin, looking excited. "I want you to be surprised." She raised an eyebrow and sighed, slumping down in her seat a bit. Obviously it was nice that Esme was wanting to surprise her with something, but it was feeling more and more like the surprise was going to be a mass grave of some kind.
What else was out here, right?
"Well, considering the fact that for the first time that I can ever remember you're actually holding to your guns on keeping a secret, I think I will be." She mumbled, and Esme nodded, their smile only seeming to grow as they rounded a corner that Juliette hadn't even realized was there.
This was why no one let her drive.
She would end up killing them all.
"Good." They said, seeming more focused now... Was there... What were they seeing that she wasn't, because if something came out of the fields she was going to shit her pants.
"Okay... So the only thing out here is cornfields and dirt roads-." Suddenly, Esme jerked her wheel to the side and took them down into the fields. Juliette's eyes widened as she grasped onto anything she could find to steady herself. "AH!" The scream didn't even sound like her own as Esme let out a cackle, pulling the parking brake before they reached over to pull her into a tight hug, letting her tremble into them.
You are so lucky I love you, I wanna kill you right now.
"Relax! Relax, I meant to do that. It was part of the plan." They said, and Juliette froze, carefully untangling herself from Esme's arms as she cleared her throat, placing a hand on their cheek... If this was some kind of long haul ax murderer situation, she was gonna be so fucking angry.
They'd made it this far, and as much as she loved Esme, she wasn't going to let them disembowel her.
"Esme, if you decided to wait until we were this far into the relationship to kill me and harvest my organs, I am going to be a little pissed." She said quietly, and Esme furrowed their brows, looking confused as they brought their hand up to rest on hers.
"What? I... No." They shook their head before turning it to press a kiss to Juliette's palm, soft and sweet. "No, this is the surprise." She said, and Juliette raised an eyebrow, glancing around... Well, there was a lot of corn, but she doubted that that was what they meant.
"The... Offroading?" She asked, and Esme rolled their eyes, shaking their head like what they were saying was meant to be obvious, but if it was then Juliette was an idiot, because she was not catching on.
She needed more hints.
"No, this." They gestured around, and Juliette glanced out again, half expecting some creature to be ambling towards them, but no... No, it was all corn. She didn't even like corn that much. "It's Tate's family's land, and it's a really clear night so I asked if he'd let me use some of it." See, that did not make them sound like they weren't going to kill her.
