There was no way in hell that Juliette was missing the first track meet since Shelby's hospital stay, mostly because she was scared that Shelby would decide to try to compete... But also because she wanted to support all of her friends, and give them a break from keeping an eye on Shelby so that they could focus on their events.
Did she want to go alone?
Fuck no.
Had she asked anyone to come?
Also no... But Becky was here now, worth a shot, right?
Juliette cleared her throat, rubbing her hands over her legs.
Speak, woman.
"So... I don't suppose that by some stroke of luck you'd maybe wanna come to the track meet with me?" Juliette asked, hoping that her nerves didn't show through her words as she looked over at Becky, who gave her an apologetic smile back and shook her head, placing a hand on her arm.
No, damn you...
"I would, but Carly and I have a date tonight." She gave her a serious look, scooting a little bit closer. "I can cancel if you-." Juliette was quick to shake her head, scooting away from Becky.
She did not need to do that, nor would Juliette want her to. She was just being paranoid, and she knew it. Ethan didn't even come to track meets, he technically was still suspended for a few more days, she would be home free... But she couldn't help but feel that he was lurking around every corner, just ready to pop out even though he did not have the ability to be popping anywhere the fuck near her.
"No, you two need your time together, I'll be alright. I'm just nervous." Juliette insisted, seeing a soft look settle across Becky's face as she squeezed her shoulder.
"And rightfully so, which is why I am offering-." Juliette shrugged her hand off.
She didn't need coddling, it had just been a simple question that had been answered. Becky wasn't going, she was on her own, and she could more than handle that... Probably.
If something went terribly wrong, at least there would be witnesses, right?
"Take the offer off the table, Aladori, I'm not accepting it." She said flatly, tucking everything into her backpack as she spoke. One of them deserved to have a normal romantic life, and currently it wasn't her, so Becky was up to the plate. "You go have fun with your girlfriend, and I'll be fine. He's suspended anyway." Juliette's stomach still sank regardless.
Because the actual fucking law hadn't been enough to keep him from attempting to break into her home, so why would the principal's rules be enough to keep him from going to a fucking game that he wasn't supposed to be at?
"Like someone else's rules have ever actually stopped him from doing anything..." Becky mumbled, and Juliette sighed, glaring over at Becky. She didn't need anyone voicing that little voice inside of her mind, it was loud enough without an external force.
She'd never be able to get herself over to the fucking stands if it won... God, she felt like a far cry from the person she'd been able to be a day ago, where was the person who'd slapped the shit out of Iris?
She wanted that version of herself back.
"I'm trying to be optimistic, don't voice the devil in my head." She said, seeing Becky's face fall as she cleared her throat, looking away from her.
"Sorry..." She lowered her voice... Funny thing to do when no one was listening. No one ever fucking listened at their school that had become a well known and hard learned truth for Juliette over the past few weeks, one that she just kept on reliving. "I'm nervous too, I didn't expect that shit with Iris yesterday." Juliette scoffed, standing up as she pulled her backpack over her shoulder.
