The Valentine's Date

The fact that you were sort of dating Sebastian was the only thing you could think of as you washed dishes. You caught yourself staring at him multiple times and had even gotten caught doing so a few times. Sebastian, of course, seemed thoroughly amused by your behavior. He'd give you playful smiles or whisper instructions in your ear just to get a reaction from you.

Now your mind was racing with what exactly he'd do for Valentine's Day. Everything had gone by so fast since your kiss after the Christmas party that you'd barely remembered that the holiday existed. You frowned and dried the dishes, putting them away. You didn't need to focus on that, you needed to focus on work. You needed to focus on helping with the Copycat Ripper investigation.

You turned when you heard footsteps behind you, just to see the raven haired butler himself carrying a few dirty dishes. He gave you a warm smile, setting them by the sink.

"Don't bother doing these, I'll take care of them. You should take a break." He said, patting your head.

You raised a brow, "My break is in ten minutes. Won't Ciel be pissed if he finds out?"

"The young master has far more important matters to worry about than me allowing my partner to take an early break."

You felt your face heat. He called you his partner. It felt so weird being referred to as such. You snapped out of your initial surprise to nod.

"Thank you, Sebastian." You said, giving him a small smile.

Sebastian seemed to notice your surprise, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "I can refer to you as something else if 'partner' makes you uncomfortable." He raises a brow, "Would you prefer a cute pet name?"

"No!" You immediately blurted. The idea of him calling you something all sweet like 'darling' or 'honey' made you internally cringe, but it also made your heart flutter. "Partner is fine."

Sebastian laughed behind his gloved hand, his eyes shining. He reached into his pocket, "Well, before you go on break I might as well give you a part of your gift." He took out a letter and handed it to you.

Your eyes widened a bit, you hadn't even gotten his gift in the mail yet! You felt a bit bad that you didn't have anything yet. You smiled warmly and took the letter.

"You can read it now or later, you choose." He tipped his head, "Though, it would be nice to see your reaction."

You couldn't help but chuckle, "Alright, I'll give you teasing fuel." You said, opening up the letter. Your eyes scanned over the words, written in red ink. The writing was insanely neat, which didn't surprise you. You smiled softly as you read the letter;

"Dearest (Name),

Though our relationship has been a short thus far, I feel it is still customary to get you a gift this Valentine's Day. I must say, you are a strange one, as I've never struggled this much to come up with a gift for a lover. So I came to the conclusion that words would be enough for you.

Though your language may be crude, and your humor dry, I still manage to love it dearly. You entertain me, and that's really all I could ask for. I'm glad that I also manage to entertain you, even if I anger you with my constant teasing.

You're an interesting person, and you know I do love interesting people. I haven't had a lover in quite some time, so forgive me if my romantic skills are a bit rusty. I'm sure you feel the same.

I hope to be one hell of a lover for you.

With all my heart, Sebastian."

You stared at the paper for the longest time before looking up at him, your eyes crinkling at the corners.
