"Do you prefer tea or coffee?" Sebastian asked, moving about your kitchen. Ciel had allowed him to come check in on you, as long as he arrived quickly when he was called.

You looked up from the floor, "Oh uh... Either is fine." You gave him an awkward smile before looking back down.

You were sitting on your bed, watching Huxley bat at his feather toy. The morning was oddly peaceful, streams of golden sunlight shimmering through the window. It was warm and comfortable, and you were still in your clothes from yesterday. You could hear birds chirping outside, cars passing occasionally. But despite the comfort, you felt a bit out of place.

You were tired, having had a very restless sleep the night before. Your brain felt foggy and your body stiff. You didn't get this feeling often, only when you had bad anxiety attacks or just didn't sleep well. It felt odd, like an out of body experience. You hated the feeling.

Sebastian approached you, handing over a mug. You carefully took it, your eyes widening a bit. He hadn't made tea or coffee, he'd made you hot cocoa. You looked up at him and raised a brow, only to be met with a gentle grin.

"I know how much you like my hot chocolate, so I figured a comfort drink would be best for you. Don't mention it." He kissed your forehead before leaning down to pick up Huxley. The cat meowed and pawed at his chest, wriggling in his secure arms.

You stared down at the mug in your hands, the warmth seeping through the ceramic and into your palms. You brought the mug to your lips. Maybe the burn would snap you out of the mind fog you oh so hated. You winced as the liquid met your tongue, bringing tears to your eyes. You swallowed hard and flinched back.

Sebastian's eyes widened a bit, "Why did you do that?"

You pressed your tongue against your front teeth, hoping to soothe the burn. After a moment you spoke, "I... I dunno." You shrugged, looking down at the floor, "I guess I wasn't thinking."

Sebastian stared down at you before placing a hand on your back, "Or maybe you're just thinking too much?"

You frowned, he could read you like a book. You looked up at him, "I dunno." You said, setting your drink on the night stand, "Something feels wrong... Even after everything." You sighed, drawing your knees to your chest, "The Copycat is in jail, I should feel so much better but... I don't."

Sebastian gazed down at you, carefully sitting down next to you on the bed. His hand hovered over your lower back, "Am I allowed to touch you?"

You stared down at the floor before leaning against him, your eyes fluttering closed. You knew why he was asking, he didn't want to overwhelm you. He held you for a long while, his hand placed carefully on your lower back. After a while of silence, you spoke.

"You were late." You murmur, hugging yourself tight.

Sebastian raised a brow, "Excuse?"

"You were late." Your voice broke as you dug your nails into your arms.

Sebastian sighed, lifting your chin and tilting his head slightly, "I know. I know I was late and you were scared, but you need to understand that I have other duties. It's my sworn duty to protect Ciel, and as much as I'd love to keep you safe at all costs, I still have a job to do and a soul to eat."

You grimaced, trying to brush off the fact that he so casually spoke about eating a child's soul, but you brushed it off. This wasn't about that right now, this was about what had happened the night before.

"I could've died, Sebastian. I was gonna die." Tears welled up in your eyes, you never realized how scared of death you were until now. It was all coming to you, why Undertaker unnerved you so much, why you were so bothered by the night before, why the idea of Sebastian being a demon was disturbing. You were terrified of dying. Horrified.
