The Perfect Performance

## Sans POV

During the entire adventure, the kid played the role of a perfect monster-hugger. Instead of going on her usual monster-slaying spree, she opted for gentle encounters with every creature we met. When monsters approached for friendly sparring matches—Lesser Dog and his furry buddies, along with various other creatures along the way—she frequently chose the peaceful routes. MERCY options became her specialty: sparing, fleeing, or wrapping things up with friendly ACTs. When that failed, she simply resorted to using items from her inventory.

*(This is fuckin' creepy, bro. She's actin' like a completely different person,)* I said through the mind link as I watched her gently pet Lesser Dog instead of... well, what she'd done before.

*(Tell me bout it. Every time she smiles at our puns, I get chills down my spine,)* Mincho replied, his mental voice filled with unease.

When the snowstorm hit, our merry band of explorers retreated to our makeshift abode to rendezvous with Papyrus. We shared dinner, just like the previous timeline, and then my brothers and I pretended to snooze next to the kid, who was conveniently bunking in the same house. The whole routine felt eerily familiar, yet completely wrong given what we knew about her true nature.

Surprisingly, when we reached Frost Edge this round, the kid didn't try to throw in the towel on our tour like she had before. Instead, she maintained that sickeningly sweet enthusiasm.

I grinned and said, "While i'd love ta keep guidin’ ya 'round the city, i think it's time fer ya ta venture out on yer own. Here's a handy communication device; feel free ta pin’ us anytime ya’ve a burnin’ question." With a flick of my wrist, I presented Frisk with a touchscreen phone that had more sophistication than a monster's fancy dinner jacket.

*(Smart move giving her that phone, brother. Now we can monitor what she's really after,)* Papyrus said through the mind link.

Next up, we hustled over to Grillby's bar, where we took our pun game to the next level—fire-themed jokes that sparked joy in the other patrons. We were really heating things up with our wordplay until Grillby, clearly at his wit's end, put his foot down and demanded we stop fanning the flames of our hot puns. Reluctantly, we complied.

Frisk, ever curious, bombarded us with text messages about her various queries and uncertainties. Every message was perfectly innocent on the surface—questions about monster culture, history, the layout of different areas—but I could sense there was something more she was fishing for.

When she finally waltzed back into Grillby's, she ordered the same meal as before, her smile shining brighter than Papyrus's homemade food. We once again had our condiment shenanigans, earning a delightful look of disgust from her—the only genuine emotion she seemed to dish out during this entire charade.

*(Did ya notice that?)* I asked my brothers. *(That disgust when we did the condiment thing? That was real. Everything else is fake as hell.)*

*(Yeah, I caught that too,)* Mincho confirmed. *(It's like she can't help but show her true feelings bout certain things.)*

## Mincho POV

When she left Frost Edge that time, we followed behind her to Water Range and showed her the river person boat. What took her half a day walk on the thin pathway before became an hour this time with our knowledge, of course. We went around "exploring," doing puzzles and meeting other monsters along the way.

The real test came when Frisk met MK again. I was more than a little alarmed when I saw her smile drop fast, becoming a deep frown filled with pure hatred. But just as fast as her smile fell, it recovered, and Frisk waved enthusiastically to MK as if nothing had happened.
