A few weeks later..
A few weeks had passed, and while Izana and Kana still bickered over the smallest things-like what to watch on TV or whether pineapple belonged on pizza-there was a noticeable shift in their relationship.
They still had their moments, where Kana would huff and roll her eyes at him, and Izana would call her a little demon under his breath, but the hostility she once had toward him had softened. She no longer treated him like a stranger invading her space.
Before, Kana wouldn't even spare him a glance if she could help it. Whenever Izana tried talking to her, she'd either ignore him completely or give him short, cold replies, making it painfully clear she wanted nothing to do with him. Even when he tried to make small gestures-like bringing her a snack or offering to take her somewhere-she either rejected him outright or brushed him off with a scoff.
But now, she still argued with him, just in a different way. It wasn't outright dismissal anymore; it was banter. She'd roll her eyes, but she'd still answer him. She'd argue, but she wouldn't shut him out.
And without Y/n knowing, Izana had picked up a quiet habit, one she used to do herself.
Before, if Kana ever fell asleep in the living room, she'd wake up in the same uncomfortable position she dozed off in. There was no one tucking her in because she refused to let Izana near her. But now?
Now, whenever Izana found her curled up on the couch, her blanket barely covering her, he'd sigh, grumble about her being careless, and carefully drape it over her again. He'd never admit it, but he made sure she was comfortable before heading off to bed himself. Sometimes, he carried her to her bed if he felt like it.
It was a small step, but they were working toward it; the day they finally were comfortable with each other.
Kana clung to Y/n like a koala, her grip stubborn and unrelenting as she whined, "Mom, please! Don't leave me alone with the old man!"
Y/n smiled awkwardly, sweat rolling down the side of her face as Izana tugged at their daughter, trying to pry her off. "Let go already! Mom needs time to actually breathe away from us!"
Kana only tightened her hold, shaking her head furiously. "I don't care! I wanna come with her!"
Y/n hesitated, about to cave in, but Izana shot her a sharp look and hissed, "No way. You're not bringing her with you."
"But-"
"I can handle watching her for a few hours, alright? Just go and enjoy yourself," Izana insisted, practically shoving Y/n toward the door.
Y/n opened her mouth to argue, but before she could get a word out, Izana gave her one final push and shut the door behind her.
