There was an unmistakable joy in their demeanor as the couple skipped along towards the train station, their intertwined fingers swinging between them. To anyone else, they looked like a new couple in the honeymoon phase of their relationship, where they constantly smiled adoringly at each other, oblivious to the world around them.
Considering that they were already into their thirties, they shouldn't have the same childish joy that youngsters had anymore, weighed down by the realities of life, but that wasn't the case for them. Hyunwoo truly felt like he had been reborn, his soul and spirit reignited by his love for Haein. He couldn't remember the last time he felt this energetic on his day off.
There was no fear of incoming calls from his in-laws, no unease of staying home under the same roof as his wife, he felt free from all the problems that used to weigh down on him so heavily that he almost felt like he could fly.
Like the gentleman he was, he paid for both their tickets, not noticing the way Haein beamed at him from behind. It was a tiny gesture, but it reminded her of the time when he used to pay for all their dates, wanting to provide for her because he thought she was poor. After they'd gotten married, Haein took on that role with all her limitless credit cards, spending away like money meant nothing to her.
It always made her feel special whenever Hyunwoo spent money on her. Not that she wanted to be pampered, it was probably impossible considering her upbringing, but she knew how much he valued his money. The fact that he was willing to spend at the drop of a hat for her meant a lot. On top of that, it was also because she loved being treated like a princess. Not just by anyone, but by Hyunwoo only. He was the only one she would act soft around anyway, everyone else got the CEO ice queen Haein while he got the cuddly Haein. He was just special like that.
"I read that there's a really pretty flower field here, let's go take lots of pictures." Hyunwoo suggested enthusiastically, his camera clutched in his hand.
After shyly admitting to how he'd painstakingly decorated his apartment with her pictures, Haein had made him pinky promise that they would take more in the near future. They'd gone so many years apart, their last pictures together were probably in some magazine feature devoid of emotion. Hyunwoo was determined to keep that promise and take beautiful pictures of his wife to admire.
The flower field did not disappoint. It reminded Haein of the sprawling lavender fields they had seen in Germany, where they'd walked through hand in hand, with no one but the purple flowers as their witness. It was magical, and served as a fond memory in Haein's heart. Perhaps after her surgery, they could revisit it, and live through their honeymoon all over again.
"Go stand over there, I'll take pictures of you!" Hyunwoo nudged her towards the frame that served as a photo spot for tourists.
Haein had always been a confident woman, not just in her abilities but in her looks too. She knew that she was pleasing to the eye, yet she blushed furiously when Hyunwoo began snapping away in earnest, throwing out words of praise as if she was the eighth wonder of the world. A small crowd had begun to gather, amused by his enthusiasm and devotion for his wife. He was truly the enemy of all men, the kind that would trigger a comment of 'why can't you be like that?'.
"You look amazing! My Haein is so pretty! One more from your left side! I can't pick which angle is the best because you look beautiful in all of them."
He even went to the extent of crouching on the floor to get a lower angle, and even laid down, abandoning all forms of decorum to capture the love of his life on his camera. Even though he was taking up the spot for longer than he should, no one minded, touched by the pure love emanating from his brown eyes as he gazed upon her.
